Tasting Note No.35

Zilzie Wines appear to be a long established new operation in Victoria. It's the first time that I've tasted anything from them. The standard Zilzie range and the Buloke Reserve wines may not provide the excitement I am looking for in a wine, however, this Show Reserve, Margaux style little red wine is excellent.

Colour dark cherry red. Fragrant, concentrated nose of blackberries, cherries and some spice. The palate is packed with rich and exciting FLAVOURS. Concentrated and is a very delicious mouthful, it provides beautiful flavours of cherries, blackberries, spice and dark chocolate. Very well balanced with good length and there is excellent French oak support in the background. Approachable and delicious already, it will peak in 4 years time. It is a very well made blend with fine tannins. I've enjoyed it a lot and at AU $18 it is a bargain.

Attila,

I wish you put up this tasting note last week. I was at Dan Murphy's looking for some good quaffers. They seem to have most/all of the Zilzie range and having heard from a few people that they are pretty good value, I bought one. I have not tasted it yet but it is a 2002 Cabernet Merlot. I am not sure in which range but hope it is this one. I don't remember it labelling the Petit Verdot so I doubt it is.

Attila rating an 18 dollar wine without being a red bubbly is a novelty!

Thanks for the note.
