Gday all,
I have a bottle of this tucked away - has anyone had any recent experience with it. How is it holding up?
Likely to crack it for my wifes birthday in a few weeks and I'll post some notes.
Many thanks

PC, are you sure it's an '83?

Are you sure it's a St George?

I just asked one of the Lindies winemakers and he said we didn't make one that year :?

Hey Sparky,
I'm quite sure it is. I'll double check tonight as I may have sent through a massive curve ball.
I was wondering why I couldn't find any information pertaining to it. The non production may have been why.
I'll get back tomorrow

I had a look in Halliday's old classic wines edition at the St George vertical, and there was no 1983 reviewed (or for the Limestone Ridge for that matter). :?

Seems to tie in with the non vintage theory - it will be interesting to see if what you have is indeed an '83 or something else.

Cheers,
Ian

Drink up. It was looking very tired 3 years ago....

1989 wasn't a good vintage, and Halliday noted in that St George vertical it would be an "early-maturing wine".

My guess is it should have peaked over 10 years ago - I agree with Mike, open it ASAP (and have a backup handy if it's for your wife's birthday).

Cheers,
Ian

Thank you - I figured as much.
I looked at the Langtons vintage charts and it looked like a poor one in the Coonawarra. It has been stored perfectly, but will definitely crack it and cross the fingers.
Many thanks again

You may get a pleasant surprise. I had a 1989 Wynns Black Label a few months ago that was drinking quite nicely - a big surprise to me  . Not a great wine, but still quite enjoyable. A great effort from a poor year. Pretty sure there was no John Riddoch that year. Marketers always say that boosts the BL in a poor year. Maybe it does.
Good luck with the St George.
