6 x 1999 D'Arenberg dead arm shiraz. Found at auction. See what they are like when they get here. No doubt more to follow this month, although cellar is 1-2 case from full.

Resisted the tempation to buy 07 Kays Block 6 at 40% off yesterday. Cheap but I don't drink that style much anymore. I still have 95's!

Where from? If you are going to buy "that style", they are one of the best examples of it. Mind you, 07 was problematic.

I thought it was worthing trying at $9pb. GWD are fairly prompt so I should have it this week and I'll post my thoughts.

Rather liked the bottle my old man slung me a month or so back ( preferred it over the 2006 Explorateur Shiraz,
that came with it...) Dry and spicey with a touch of that Barossa sweetness and soft tannins come to mind...

The Woodlands was $130, reduced to $90. There seemed to be around half a dozen on the shelf.
FWIW the 07 Moss Wood was reduced to just over $80.

Thanks for that Michael. That is a good price, as I think the mailing list price is more than that.
I was actually in again but forgot about these. Instead, picked up:

2x 2007 Rousseau gevrey chambertin
2x 2007 Rousseau charmes chambertin
2x 2007 Rousseau clos st jacques
3x 2008 Jean Foillard Morgon cote du py

Hmmm may have to return soon for the woodlands.

I'm not buying any wine at the moment. I have enough. (So the minister for war and finance says).

Anyway. Found some 2001 Lancaster cleanskin Cabernets from the swan valley for $30ea or $20ea by the carton. Made a couple phonecalls and will probably keep four. Earthy and dirty he old me. Nothing like the new generation of Cabernet which is much more approachable in its youth. (He said)

Nothing like getting down and dirty...

Just cracked one in to decant. I'd ike to say i'm on to a winner, but that woud be my pride lying.
A little sharp red berry on the mid palate at first with a hint of licorice after. May open up with a little time.

Edit- - Corrected some details and dropped in an opinion.

I feel guilty for robbing my friends and wasting my money.

Lancaster wines sold me shit labeled as something less shitty than it was. Even though it was a clean skin.

That's twice i have been done by that winery and its staff.

Shit heads.

Xsorxpire, I think you should tell them your not happy with them and ask them to pick the bottles up and give you your money back. They'll probably tell you to keep them.

I couldn't resist these unusual finds in a local bottle shop:

1970 Chateau Musar, Lebanon
1977 Chateau Musar, Lebanon
1984 Mas Amiel 'Cuvee Speciale', Maury, France.

The latter is a Grenache-based desert wine that is made, a la port-style, with fortification to stop fermentation. This producer stores the wine OUTDOORS in glass demijohns for a whole year before aging it in oak casks. I don't know how long it was cask aged as there is no indication on the label.

Mahmoud.

I opened a bottle tonight as well as a Pirramimma Eight Carat 06 Mclaren Vale Bush Vine Greanache that a mate picked up on Grays. I couldn't pick the difference when the bottles were opened but after decanting and an hour's rest the Eclaireur is a significantly better wine. I'm very happy with the purchase at $9pb and wouldn't be unhappy at the regular $15pb either.

I've often been disappointed in earlier vintages of Tom. I take it you have tried this one and it looks more promising.

A couple more

04 & 05 Hillcrest Premium Pinot….
Every time I buy their Pinot, I think of the one I tried at the Grape mates tasting early last year (05 I think?), which was my first. Ah the benefits of tastings!
