2008 was a write off for Hunter reds. Anyone know what the 2009 release will bring? Am wondering whether to take out a Lakes Folly subscription now in order to secure some of the 2009 cabernet when it is released early next year.

Andrew, I wouldn't stress on the Lakes Folly cabernet. I usually see it at the chains for cheaper than cellar door.

really ? i've yet to see any current vintage lakes folly cabs @ dans, first choice, VC. Must be the stores i visit, but only time i've seen any lakes folly is in the new langtons section of dans and its never current vintage. You wouldnt happen to know any stores now that stock any?

I am quite sure I have seen them at VC double bay, bondi junction and clovelly. I think I have spotted them at DM Alexandria.

I haven't bought any from the last few vintages but they used to be significantly cheaper via cellar door than retail. Like $40 v $60+. I know they've gone up now but I was still under the impression that buying via the cellar door was best.

That was my thought as well, they're now $55 a bottle cellar door which is still much cheaper then i've seen elsewhere.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll sign up and get some mail order. I adore Hunter Shiraz so am keep to get some of this. Assume this is generally a 10+ cellar proposition though?

I don't want to be a pendant but I was under the impression that Lake's Folly red was, almost uniquely for the Hunter, not a Shiraz but a Cabernet?

Yeah, it's not a Shiraz wine.

We must have went on a bad day back in early 2005. They were asking for $75-80 at the cellar door for both Cabernets and Chardonnay. We didn't make a purchase.

Maybe some of the cellar doors have realised that everyone has cottoned on to the fact that retailers were usually cheaper.

I'm just assuming cellar door is $55 as that is the price for the mailing list, i could be wrong as i've never actually been to Lake's Folly cellar door and just buy via their mailing list.

Realise it is a cabernet. My earlier message was poorly worded. Am keen to see what a Hunter Cabernet tastes like given my liking for shiraz from there.
