1998 Barossa Valley Estates Ebenezer Shiraz
Opens with a bit of reduced aroma, but this blows off after a few minutes of air. The wine is smooth and lush, with dark berry fruits, a touch of anise, and a fair dose of integrated oak - but the oak blends in quite well. Tannins are mild to at most moderate, and this wine is drinking very nicely right now - feels quite rich and oily in the mouth. Rated Very Good.
1998 Trevor Jones "Dry Grown" Shiraz
On initial opening this was thin and astringent, quite disappointing. A little air time in the glass made some improvement, to almost "good", but 24 hours later it has faded to a wine I wouldn't cook with. Trevor must have worked pretty hard to make such a bad wine in '98.
Regards,
Alan
