Wife came home with 2010 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc tonight. Not sure when to drink it. It's usually best after about 3-6 months in the bottle so maybe wait a while

Anyone tried it yet?

12 x St Hallett Classic Barossa Shiraz 2008. Hope it's better than the Gamekeeper's Shiraz 08 I had recently but for $7/btl it may end up as the base for sangria over the summer that's already arrived here.

Some notes from a recent tasting:

CIMG8268.jpg

Chateau Labegorce 1975: Good color, silky but slightly metallic, did not last very long on the palate - weakest wine of the evening.

Chateau Palmer 1975: Still dark color, an elegant wine with good tannins and length, can still go some years - nice drinking.

Sylou Corton Clos du Roi 1943: I had no high expectation for this one due to the age but got very positively surprised. The wine had still a bright ruby color with brownish touch. Very silky, still good structure and surprising changes in aromas over the time - a great experience to see how well wine can age.

Gernot Heinrich Salzberg 2004: What a powerhouse – dark colored, very rich with a lovely nose of fruits and spices. A very good wine but almost too much at the moment, should be kept for another 5 years at least but then it will be a great experience.

Henschke Keyneton Estate Shiraz / Cabernet / Malbec 1985: A big W O W for the third time!!!!! This was the third bottle of the Keyneton 1985 I tried now in the last few month and every bottle was a sensation. Unfortunately only one is left……

Henschke Hill of Grace 1989: Still dark colored, well concentrated with a wonderful complex nose with a lot of fruits, blackcurrant and sweet spices. Creamy-textured in the mouth, perfect length on the palate - great stuff.

Chateau Lafon 1966: This one was an example how an aged well made Sauternes can taste. Pale mahogany color, with an intense nose of apricots and brown sugar. Still a bit fat with a perfect structure and length. Maybe it could be a touch sweeter but overall a wonderful wine to close a remarkable evening.

Cheers and happy drinking.

Rockfords,
6 x Basket Press Shiraz
6 x Black Shiraz Sparkling Shiraz
2 x Moppa Springs GSM
2 x Rod and Spur Shiraz Cabernet
2 x Rifle Range Cabernet
and more of the last 3 when I can afford it!
Noon,
3 x Reserve Shiraz (hopefully)
3 x Reserve Cabernet (hopefully)
5 x Twelve Bells
1 x Noon Tawny
Went to a tasting this afternoon and picked up,
2 x 2009 Grosset Polish Hill Reisling

I am well (and I mean well!!) and truly over budget now, so that might do me for the rest of the year, unless something comes up that is just too good to resist (price wise). I have to concentrate on building a cellar now.

3 x 02 Flaxman SVS Shiraz
3 x 02 Hoffman SVS Shiraz

Hi Mike

i've tried a few bottles of the 02 Basket Press Shiraz, and been somewhat disappointed with all them (porty & unbalanced), particularly given the 02 Barossan vintage reports.
The reason for my post is because i'm not very familiar with the Flaxman and Hoffman and wondered whether they're occasionally released (?). If so, did the best fruit go in them, resulting in the BP been soemwhat disappointing?

Interested to hear you thoughts, and others who've tried it/them.

Cheers
Michael

Got my Rockfords order in so
6*08 Basket Press
3* Black Shiraz FRS
3*10 Alicante Bouchet to round out the dozen (and because I love it)

From Mount Pleasant
2*07 Maurice O'Shea
2*07 OH&OP Shiraz
2*07 Rosehill Shiraz

And I'm trying to source some 02 Dom Perignon preferably with the warhol packaging as I like to mix my art and wine - my two passions.

Hi Kris. Can you give a little more detail? The Warhol thing is a mystery to me. Velvet Underground did a Warhol tribute in 1990 - perhaps that should have been linked to the 1990 Dom (which I loved as often as I could)

Cheers

Allan

Dom Perignon are releasing a limited number of bottles in warhol packaging so instead of the satid green labels they are lurid pink, blue and yellow or something with eqally pop looking boxes. Of course you pay a premium for the packaging but i'm a sucker for warhol. The labels aren't actually designed by Warhol as he's obviously not with us any more but have been designed by some London design firm.

Here is what they look like:

Thanks Kris. Eye catching indeed, and depending on the premium you pay, perhaps a collectors item in future (the box, not the wine, which I will drink). Enjoy!

Michael,

Based on he last couple of timesI've had the 02 BP, I tend to agree with the portiness statement (I didn't prior to that). The Flaxman and Hoffman are part of the SVS range released in miniscule quantities at CD. The SVS range tend to be single vineyard and the source often differs each vintage. As such, the best fruit doesn't necessarily go into these. For what its worth, the Flaxman (Eden Valley) was superb.

I paid AUD 20 per bottle premium for mine. They look great, though its what's in the bottle that ultimately counts. (yes, I know, I'm a victim of fashion etc etc etc!).

12x 2008 d'Arenberg Footbolt Shiraz
1x Magnum 2005 Footbolt (freebie)

...and quite a lot of pretty unremarkable Chilean wine, although the sav blanc and chardonnays I've had have been quite good. The reds have all been simple, smooth and sweet, tasting generally like middle of the range American merlot (particularly the Carmenere), whatever the varietal.
