1998 Mount Pleasant Maurice O'Shea Shiraz

Can't remember when I bought this, but found half a case in the cellar. It was probably one of those trips to the Hunter where I drank too much (and bought too much) Thus, I really could not recall the wine.

Upon opening and pouring, promising, as there was an immediate lifted savoury, spicy nose. Nice. Swirling in the glass revealed deep cherry flavours with a good serving of savoury spice. A hint of tar on the nose added to complexity. On the palate, quite succulent berry fruit intermingled with earthy, exotic spices. Cadary oak was well integrated, ending with chalky, if not harsh tannins.

I thought that the wine was quite good, with adequate body, but abit short in the palate. I also thought that the tannins were abit too dominant at present. Whether or not this will settle out in time, I guess I have the stocks to explore given the recent find.

Sorry gotta run, will post the TN to the 98 Vicar later.

Cheers,

Monghead.
