2010 Great Australian Wine Tasting - London - 22nd May

UK based Wine Merchant ‘Oz Wines’ held their annual tasting in London on the 22nd May. This was the 20th Anniversary of the event and there were a few Winemakers in attendance, including Barossa Legend Bob McLean, Dominic Morris of Pondalowie and occasional poster to this forum Tim Smith. Over 200 Aussie and Kiwi wines were on show, I tasted quite a few of those 200 and so have no real tasting notes, only some personal highlights, which are as follows
McLean’s Farm – 2007 barr-Eden Farmgate MSG with contrasted nicely with Tim Smiths slight variant, his 2008 MGS.
Primo Estates Italian Varietals – Zamberlan, Nebbiolo and the classic Moda ‘Amarone’
Dominic Morris talking through his Tempranillos, the best for me being his 2005 MT made with grapes from his own Bendigo Vineyard
Langmeil Sparkling Shiraz, yummy as always!
Paxton Wines, a Wine Company I’d not heard of but who showed a lovely 2009 Rose and a McLaren Vale single vineyard Shiraz called Quandong Farm, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for Paxton Wines now.
Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc 2009, very nice cooler climate SB.
D’Arenberg Love Grass Shiraz 2007, nice Shiraz, interesting Label!
St Hallett Old Block 2006, another classic
And finally...
Tim Smiths Haircut, glad he’d got it done in time for the show! Nice one Mate!
So another enjoyable ‘Oz Wines’ Tasting and roll on next Years...
Cheers
Ollie
