AFD..... [alcohol free day]

OK.... so lets all be honest with each other!

How many of us plan a few of these a week? While answering a few questions from my GP a while back her feedback was that at least one is good but two is better.
How many of us would like to but fail?

Personally i try and make my Monday's & /or Tuesday's free as i find Wednesday -Sunday always more 'socially' heavy. I don't class myself has a heavy drinker.
Everyone has differing requirements/choices and we all have varying levels of consumption.

What about everybody??

I try my darndest to avoid AFD's, but very occasionally exceptional circumstances conspire against me and I have to experience the unadulterated reality of the world for a full 24 hours.

My AFD’s usually coincide with a big one the night before. So if I’m very inebriated on a Friday you can bet Saturday will be an AFD.

I try to have an AFD on the second Tuesday of every other February. I missed this year but will try harder for 2012.

Geez , I feel like a bit of a dag answering honestly amidst the hail of levity your question has encouraged, but yeah: I'm on the same roster as you - best case scenario.

Mon/Tue off, moderate Wed/Thur, free-for-all after that.

To be honest, as I spend a little more on wine, I appreciate it more, and drink a little less. Everyone's happy - wife, GP, dog etc....

Good on you via collins a sensible response at last. It sounds like we tread down a similar path

Same as above....

Mon/Tues AFD
Wed/Thur - 1 bottle over 2 nights shared with the wife
Fri-Sun - anything goes!

I usually only drink on Fri, Sat, and the occasional Tues/Wed (prob twice a month).. and the equivalent max I'd have in a single session would be just under a bottle..

Went from drinking only on week ends when I started, but mainly beer, spirits and mixers.

Then discovered wine, and gradually increased to every night (more on weekends).

Now a little older (but none the wiser) and am conscious of the need for 1-2 AFDs per week. So far, 1 AFD/week is common, but hardly ever 2. Usually find Sun to be the best AFD for us. The rest of the week, wifey and I usually share a half bottle of something...

Cheers,

Monghead.

Have been trying to drink less, but drink better for many years.

Always aim for three AFDs - Mon, Tues and Thurs, but am happy if it ends up being two, or even one. Try to make Sundays and Wednesdays half bottles. Try not to just go for broke on Friday and Saturday, but.......

Cheers

Michael

Similar to most it seems. The AFD is usually a weeknight. Tuesday or Wednesday most commonly. This week it was yesterday :D

I've modified my alcoholic intake over the last 2 years with the onset of diabetes. Now that I have recently embarked on a weight/fitness program with a personal trainer, I find I'm drinking less and less. AFD's now easily outnumber my AD's. When I do drink, it's most often with a few people and I try to keep it to a maximum of 2 glasses. I do drink about 6 glasses at our monthly wine group dinner.

Aiming for Monday and Tuesday and we are doing fairly well - better half took some convincing. We do vary it depending on various factors - if Saturday was a bit over indulgent might make it Sunday and Monday. This week Monday and Wednesday just because Tuesday's chicken pie cried out for a glass of wine more than the pork chops down for tonight :?

Hard thing is being moderate, not only for the waist line but I know I handle the kids better and am easierto be around if I have been moderate. Between having a decent cellar and a job that is driving me to drink, not always easy

Previously, I'd have 4-5 AFDs per week. My wife doesn't drink much, and I try not to, so we don't usually have any wine on days without socialising. Even when we do have friends over for dinner, or go to their place, it would only be a 2-bottles max event, as they don't really drink a lot...
*sigh* I think I need to find a tasting group to join...

But, since I started working for a winery, I've been having less AFDs... due to the "leftover" (3rd day) cellar-door tasting stock I'm allowed to bring home to try. It's great - I just drink whatever I can that same day, and tip the rest into the sink (on most occasions, for some that I feel make travel an additional day, I would vac-seal it).

Even so, I still have at least 2 AFDs a week, which (accordng to some/most) is good for my health... :D

Last winter I was really trying hard to have a AFD a week but not really succeeding at all. I find it a bit easier in summer when I'm less likely to want red wine but then I'm usually on beer or cocktails or a fresh summer white.

However since Christmas, I've been trying to lose weight and the easiest way to do it is to not drink half a bottle or more of wine every night. Or a couple of beers or a caprioska with a full teaspoon of sugar in it. So right now I'm actively trying to avoid drinking at home but am still drinking if I'm out. This has nothing to do with feb fast or anything though as those things really annoy me. It's simply a weight loss strategy.

Quite a few AFDs since the drinking partner became pregnant. I find a glass of fizzy water helps alleviate the niggling feeling that the drink/glass is missing.

I see AFDs as representing an aspirational goal which, if I fail to meet (and that happens with monotonous frequency), I take comfort in its only being a 'non core' commitment. Seems to work for our pollies and who am I to ignore such conspicuous role models. Any semblance of guilt is washed away with another decent red and the pattern continues. Works for me.

Well, would you adam an' eve it - so soon after indicating the occurance was a rare one, exceptional circumstances conspired against me last night and I achieved a fabled AFD within the week. The evening seemed strangely empty and unfulfulling. On the plus side, having scaled the dizzy heights of the moral high ground, my view of the world this morning is grand; a celebratory beer at lunchtime is probably indicated.

I usually have 2 AFDs a week, and ensure that any mid week drinking is moderate. At the weekends I might have a couple of glasses more, but never enough to give me a hangover

Recently I've become concerned, to the point of paranoia, about the amount I drink. I tally up my weekly units and it's always there or there about, but for some reason I have hit some sort of phase regarding my general health

i.e. I'm a vegetarian who doesn't eat much dairy, but still I've concerned about cholesterol... Insane. Maybe I need to drink more

Inspirational stuff, one day i might even consider thinking about trying a purposefully targetted AFD
Also like Peter's approach of priorities...core V non-core aspriational goals....hence i'd also put AFD's in the Non-core aspirational goals, alongside my skipping rope and savings plan.

I sometimes have alcohol free mornings but then does beer count? I had an alcohol free 1st half of a football match once! I used to have October off from drinking but it means that the cellar backs up and things get chaotic. My kids used to complain about my regular drinking until I got sober and they got to know me - now they encourage me to drink.....

Look if my gout plays up I sometimes go onto white wine for awhile and that's about as close to AFD as you can get
