We started with a bottle of the Zind Humbrecht Heimbourg Rielsing 1999, lovely wine, I would class it as off dry, stack loads of [ ] and a minerally long finish. Excellent
Opened a bottle of 1990 Chateau Guiraud to pair with some pan fried Foie Gras, lovely wine, deep colour and lots of caramel and brown sugar on the the nose, but tempered by some citrus characters, nice and rish on the palate but finish could have been a bit more sustained. Excellent.
Then opened a bottle of the 1991 DRC Exchezeaux, nose was superb, strawberries, red cherries, florals. Mid weight on the palate, nice structure with ample acidity. Will hold but drinking well now. Excellent.
Then a magnum of 1969 Hospice de Beaune cuvee betault Louis somethingarather. Bottle was in great condition but being a beaune was very worried it would go the distance, how wrong I was. Opened beautifully with developed characters, lots of truffle and earth but still with a fair bit of light berry fruit, great structure on the palate, nice long finish. This wine then slowly died a graceful death and half an hour later it was gone...astringent and acidic, we got through half the magnum and left the rest...but the first half was a great experience.
For some stupid reason we then went to a wine bar and had a bottle of the 1995 Lenoble Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, I love this well priced bubbles. To finish we had a 1996 JJ Prum Rielsing Spalese...I have written about this before, it is a great wine, stack full of peach.
All in all a good night with fantastic company and great food, what more could you ask for. I was very happy with the 1969 a great experience, luckily I still have a couple of magnums left
