TN: Craggy Range Bannockburn Sluicings Pinot Noir 2007

At last… a NZ Pinot I liked and as Craggy Range can do no wrong at the moment I thought I’d bite the bullet and buy a couple of these new single vineyard bottlings; and I have to say this is the first NZ Pinot Noir that has really lit my fire. Sultry & voluptuous I found it hard to put down. Big (for a Pinot) with a perfume of red berry fruits, cloves, herbal nuances and a hint of creaminess and mineral. As this slowly opens & warms the wine becomes deeply layered, juicy & almost funky. Finishes smooth and elegant with some earthiness, silky tannins and a fine length. It probably deserves 3-5 years in the cellar. 14%vol.

But the best thing about it is the price. All this seduction for a mere £12.79(AU$22) when you buy 2. In fact, and as a mark of how much I enjoyed it, I went out & bought another 10 bottles of it today, which was all they had left! Just don’t compare it to Burgundy…

I thought Craig(NZ) may have put his boot in (or not in this instance) over this new bottling. The first vintage apparently and not a wine for Burg freaks I'd say!

Definitely not, but horses for courses. This vineyard immediately neighbours Felton Road's Calvert vineyard - which Craggy also make a wine from - so would be interesting to compare side by side. They also have the single vineyard Zebra Pinot from Central and the Otago Station.. they're hitting Central hard!

havent tried this bottling

not a huge fan of craggy pinots i think they are over priced. tried the zebra at the vineyard after having a bottle of escarpment voyager for lunch at terrior

the gap plain to see. on that occassion I would have happily paid the exta $15 to get the escarpment
