2007 Sons of Eden Barossa Valley "Kennedy" GSM

Post by Michael McNally »

2007 Sons of Eden Barossa Valley "Kennedy" GSM. $22. SC. 14.5%

Drinking this right now and....yum!

Vibrant dark red. Lightly charred/smoked musk (sounds weird, but is very appealing) combined with green toffee apple and wet soil. Not too sweet on entry, rather savoury. Charred meats and sweetish charcuterie with dark raspberry. Hard to define a particular fruit flavour really, could be a number of things - plum, berries. Quite complex at this price point. No overt alcohol on the lovely long finish. The lightest tannin background. Very, Very Good particularly with QPR.

Not sure if this is better than the 2006 (I'll have to dig out my TN) but I will keep a couple of these for a few years to see how they pan out.

Cheers (literally!)

It certainly sounds appealing Michael. What does it cost and what's the alc/vol, not that the latter matters much to me but it may to others.

And a literal, "Cheers" to you too while I'm sipping a much more basic Sacred Hill chard 08 whilst settling back to watch Spielberg's verion of "War of the Worlds" which from the early scenes so far, I'm sure I've seen before. Oh well, I seem to recall it being an ok movie.

Haven't had a Pennys Hill Red Dot shiraz 08 for a while so grabbed a bottle on discount on the way home along with a Jacobs Creek Rsv shiraz 06 for variety.

Thanks Daz

Costs $22. 14.5%. I think Gavin stocks it. Try the Zephyrus Shiraz/Viognier. Fab at around $30 ish. Tom Cruise is a little hit (Tropic Thunder) and miss (nominations?), but it's an okay flick I guess.

Cheers

Thanks Michael, 14.5% isn't daunting when the wine is balanced. Never tried any of his wines but Smithy (Warrabilla) could call it woosey  . Halliday gives the 06 a good rap, reckons the shiraz stitches the blend together, interested in your vintage comparo, whenever.

Cheers

Sons of Eden are a great winery and Simon and the crew are nice people. They are trying and succeeding in making more elegant Barossa Reds, and their whites are not too shabby either!

Gavin reviews this wine here:

I had a look through my pile of handwritten tasting notes and couldn't find my note on the 2006.

Cheers
