Viking Grand Shriaz 2001

I am interested in any comments regarding the Viking Grand Shiraz 2001. I recently bought some at auction and opened a bottle out of curiosity to find the cork was totally soaked. The wine presented well enough and was not oxidised or brett affected but something appears to be missing. It may be just the bottle but it appears to either be heat affected or past its drinking window.
For this bottle at least, the fruit is gone and there is an acidic finish. I would be interested in others experience with this wine.

Sounds like it may be 'scalped' ... read mildly corked. If not, then bad storage a possibility. Should be much better than that!

Tmtb: I think you just had a bad btl...i bought some a short while ago and cork seepage was half way up but still sound. A big wine...seemed better on day 2/3 for me....so give a good decant.
How many did you buy?

The second bottle was worse than the first. Totally saturated cork with slight leakage. Popped out with minimal effort and was almost porous.... Never come across this before.
It appears that either I have scored a very badly cellared box or the wine is well past it's glory days.
The second bottle revealed a little life in the first half an hour but soon disintegrated into a green, lean acid bomb.
I have another 10 that I will mostly use for cooking if these two are anything to go by.
I hope my 2004's don't go the same way.

The wine isn't past its glory days...far from it.... still going very strong and robust. Hopefully you can find some good btls in your batch
