Hi All,
Any little gems to share about favourite cafes, restaurants, wine experiences down Great Southern? Also, if any fellow forumite would like to share a drink with an Eastern wino in Perth/Avon Valley, Margaret River or down South, please raise your right hand: ie glass.
We'll be staying in Freo (daughter et al.) & Denmark, Pemberton & Albany.
Warm regards,
John

Hi Softie,
What dates are you around? Happy to meet up but am away from 8th dec until the 4th of Jan.
You simply must visit Denmark bakery for the best pies in the universe!
cheers

Thanks Carl, but I think the dates are against us. We arrive late Dec (20th I think) and fly back 9th Jan - only back in Freo from down South on the 8th... bit tight for a drink when we're staying at the daughters.
Sing out if you come to Sydney and are feeling thirsty.
Warmest regards,
John

Try Somerset Hill (not sure if their cellar door is open very often though) and Old Kent River near Denmark for wines. Travel the Lower Denmark Road between Albany and Denmark/Walpole and visit Mutton Bird Island, Torbay and Cosy Corner (childhood home of The Waifs). Then drive Scotsdale Rd to visit Howard Park's cellar door, and go back to Denmark via Mt Shadforth Rd
Cheers,
Dave

No worries! Its the holiday season. Will call out when next in Sydney.
Forgot to mention that Forest Hill has a very decent restaurant food-wise with lovely views and the wines are great to boot. Open for lunch so a short trip from Denmark is in order (on the way to Old Kent River perhaps. Worth going at least for wine tasting.
cheers
Carl

Somerset Hill - very good bubbles from memory.
Forest Hill is good gear and Harewood is worth checking out.

Whip up from Albany to Mount Barker and Porungorup for Plantagenet, Castle Rock, Gilberts, Poachers Ridge. Maybe even Frankland for Frankland Estate. Foodwise, there is a Thai cafe next to Dukes winery called Maleeyas which is excellent. Extremely fresh produce very well cooked and a little gem. Only open Thu to Sun I think (maybe even Fri to Sun). My wife tells me there is a place in Denmark called 6333 which she says is good, although I haven't been. If you are in Pemberton, then Picardy is a must although it requires a booking.
Cheers
Dave
