Cautiously opened this bottle last night, well prepared to be disapointed with a big hot aussie shiraz but no...I loved it.
Decanted it for about 1 hour before drinking, could have used another couple of hours to really strut it stuff as it continued to open considerably in the glass over the course of the consumption. Beautiful nose of spice and plums, intense and well rounded on the palate with lots of cassis, great balance.
Exactly what I like in Aussie shiraz. I will be buying a few more for the cellar, I think it will age very well. I really look forward to trying the Hanisch!
For those in the know, how does this one compare to other vintages?
TN: Veritas Heysen Shiraz 2001
ANY IDEAS ON VINTAGE??
i have followed veritas for a number of years, and drunk the cab/merlot 2001 last night. Seemed to be an OK vintage but possibly a bit light.
I have compared it withg 2000 having missed this vintage, but the heysen 2000 is currently on offer locally and the 2001 enpremier so which to buy???
Any help.

I had the 2001 Hanisch on Saturday night....great wine, great potential, just needs time.
These are definately wines I will be buying again in the future.
What other wines can you reccomend from down that way that are similar?

Agree re the Heysen and Hanisch, both are similar in style, need loads of time to open up, and have terrific cellar potential. I have put a few Hanisch away in the cellar to be brought out much later on.
Did you have a chnace to decant it long before drinking it?
