I had a 2001 of these recently and it was my fav of the evening and it stood out against a Greenock Creek Creek Block and a Seven Acre, a 2000 Kays Block 6, 2002 Shirvington Cabernet (we had a shiraz but it was corked), Veritas Hanisch and Heysen and a 1990 Henschke Hill of Grace (plus others).

So when I heard we were having a 1991 at dinner recently I started to salivate (not a pretty sight, Homer Simpson springs to mind). Anyway, it was a very deep reddish, purple color. The nose was bursting with developed savory and chocolate characteristics, with hints of tobacco and coffee. A lovely long lingering finish of chocolate, fresh rich licorice (darryl-lea), very good structure and a wonderful complexity. Yum, thank you Gary and Chris !!

Thanks for the note Mark. Can anybody remember having had this wine before? Say about 5 years ago?

At the last release tasting I noted many people talking about some nineties vintages not going the distance as they had anticipated/experienced with other vintages of this wine. I'm just curious if the 1991 fits that bill and if perhaps it has come out the other side of a 'dumb phase'.
