TN: Dalrymple Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2005

I remember being pretty impressed with the 02 model of this wine when we visited the winery some years back - lovely and complex with substantial, meaty notes. This is no different, a powerhouse of a wine with an impressively varietal nose, iron filings, earth, plums, perfumey spice and some slightly salty iodiney notes. The palate is equally as lively, with a whiff of tomato, dried herbs, pepper, blood, grilled meat and plenty of robust plummy fruit. This reminds me of an Epis Pinot in full flight or perhaps more to the point, the 02 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Pinot although there is certainly more subtlety in this than the latter, even if it is quite robust.

An excellent wine and a treat.

I was just tossing up a Wantirna or Epis pinot noir for tonight...

What region is the Darymple from?

Cheers,

Monghead.

Yep - Tassie - Pipers Brook, Tamar Valley

Rustic cellar door. Wine is far from that though.

Liked their wines at the recent "Tasmania Unbottled" (where was davo on that one?).

Both pinots were good from recollection (though perhaps a touch pricey for my slender wallet?).

Cheers

Davo,

Love your work. My old man has known about this winery for years and takes everybody he can there while doing Pipers and Bay of Fires.
Jansz has actually bought out the winery but are allowing the Dalrymple label to continue. Must get more up to date info on that...

But the Pinot they make is amazing. Hmmmmm....can I convince the old man to do a vertical? Might have to give his ribs a nudge.
