I couldnt resist another 05 John Forrest Collection Noble Riesling. I dunno, maybe I rate this as the best sweet wine ever made in NZ (that I have tried anyway). It is just absolutely stiunning and still available 2 years after its release...shows you a) the price isnt too popular b) how trendy sweet wine is in NZ

Also added a few 08 Doctors Riesling.

Gonna have to get a couple more 07 Church Rd Reserve Syrah and 07 Awatea me thinks

Almost $1600 half year here, about $1380 if paid by due date..........

3,200 a year now you have made me feel better my home one is 1100 less ! its the land tax that will be next

Mind you it has helped me build a good cellar so i cant complain really

Oh don't... my Alfa 156 has needed a new cam belt for some time and the cost is frightening... and I have to pay off the holiday to Europe - you wont be seeing me post in this thread for a looooong time, barring Lotto coming through for me.

mitzi vr4 cambelt (not cheap) with all the side jobs (water pump, idlers, tensioners, other belts) with full service at mates rates home job $1200. I got off lightly but still it hurts a lot when really nothing has changed that you can notice! Then there is the $400 on some sports sunnies and trail shoes!! other hobbies push there way in sometimes (and I think its good that they do - keeps a hobby outside obesession territory - just)

Mike, get the cambelt done urgently. If it's overdue, it could go any time, and it'll probably mean a new engine. I'm a regular on the alfa forums and it happens all the time to people. Nasty. Might as well do the variator while they're in there, not much extra money, and if it has to be changed later, you have to get a new cambelt at the same time anyway, so do both together. Should cost around $1000-$1300 ($AU) in total. Cheaper than a new car or engine.

OK, back to wine. Not buying much as my alfa is at the panel beaters after a bit of a bad ding. Going to try some of Gavins though as soon as $$$ allow, Cullen Mangan, Hewitson Old Garden Mourvedre, Derelict Vineyard all sound worth a try.

Released last week to the mailing list.

Haven't tried, but knowing how much I like Rory's wines (and Grampians Shiraz in general) it was an automatic purchase. Picked up the two single vineyard wines, plus the regular bottling. Very much looking forward to opening them.

However they took two cellar shares that had expired a year ago and I managed to smash a bottle of Peter Lehmann Cab Sav all over the floor and they cleaned it up and replaced it so I'm not going to go chasing them over a couple of dollars now. In fact these were all either free thanks to cellar shares or at 30% off (almost bringing them in to line with most on-line retailers)

Just remembered the other two bottles. It was two bottles of Teusner Avatar - whatever the current release is. So I'm thinking now I may actually be a bit in front now.

Clonakilla form arrived yesterday. I envy the case buyers, but my budget stretched to:

1x 2008 Hilltops Shiraz
1x 2008 O'Riada Shiraz
1x 2009 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (because I want to actually drink some Clonakilla before I turn 40!)

4 Penfolds Grange 2004, will buy more when I find them at the right price but at this excellent price (just under $450 grabbed the only 4)
6 Henschke Mount Edelstone 2006, grabbed a bottle to open (the only true way to taste) a couple of weeks back to see if both JO's and Hallidays coments about 'being one of the greatest Henschke wines made ever" and "I cannot remember any better than this" respectively and yes no doubt both true, a serious wine jumping out of the glass and worth every single cent of its price and I dont say that lightly. Will probably even get more. I just cant think of too many wines across the world where you can get this style in such quality.

Will probably get some 07 Bouchard whites
Maybe some 93 Zilliken Rieslings (not sure when Nev's stock is turning up)

A TWS telemarketer offered a few wines, ended up ordering 2 each:

Chapel Hill Shiraz 2006

Also bought a bottle of Knappstein Cab 08 to try after one of the barn managers touted it. Don't go there - "dead", plummy fruit, excessive added acid that contibutes to a nasty bitter finish with minimal fruit or oak tannins.

No, but am one and the same. Gavin has/had a preference for actual names so when I registered on the old forum I acceded with his preference. On the trial site I

Am I allowed to say I'm on a tight budget so therefore will be buying more:
Morgans Cleanskin Pinot Noir. (Morgan's aren't happy with it so therefore cleanskinned it and selling for $100 a case...having one now, nothing wrong with it unless you don't like strawberries).

Apart from that, I'm sure the wife will go to Dans to stock up on more $8 a bottle NZ Sauv Blanc.
