Brilliant philosophy that David Powell has on wine making. Just like good food it’s all about the natural produce. So find the best fruit and let it do the speaking without shrouding it with other flavours (including too much oak).
Very brief notes, I really wanted to write proper notes but was caught up listening to David and appreciating the wine too much.
Cuvee Juveniles’ – very rich fragrant nose of mixed berries and a drinking now easy drinking palette. Nice with food.
Woodcutters – what a great wine for the price. Always seen this floating about but never tried it before. Great varietal Shiraz characters that sold me from nose to palette. Will be my next quaffer for while I think.
The Steading 06 – great amalgamation of fragrant fruits. Another very good wine that would be great with food
The Struie 06 – This was also superb but unfortunately didn’t quite match the 04 we drank with dinner after the tasting. Very good but the 04 is simply outstanding.
The Gask 07 - Started to get into the wow wines, WOW. This is a fragrant gem that screams Eden Valley. Would pin this up against Mount Edelstone any day and be at the very least equal if not better. Glorious soft mouthfeel but keeps a great intensity coating the moth and leaving an unforgettable taste.
The Descendant 07 - a big bold wine that was very good but for me had too much Viognier. Am going out to try some Clonakilla to compare.
The Factor 06 – This is just brilliant, oozing intensity with great style and close to WOTN.
RunRig 05 – ooo yeah. What a great example of how good top end Aussie Shiraz can be. Just an infant waiting to explode.
RunRig 06 – same as above but think I slightly preferred the 05.
All and all there were no wines that did not impress. This will now transcend into more space left for Torbrek wines in my cellar. Two favs for now drinking and into the future were the Gask and Factor. Am now a huge fan.

Sounds like a great tasting Partagas. Our monthly winemaker’s degustation dinner at our local restaurant last October was Torbreck and I would have to say that I too was impressed by the wines and Dave Powel’s winemaking philosophy. Plus he is a very interesting character – I understand why you didn’t take many notes.
We didn’t get up to the Run Rig, but I would agree with your impressions of the wines and I can confirm that they are great with food. I was also fortunate enough to win the options game that night. The prize was a bottle of The Factor, which I had Dave sign.

I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Was at Torbrek Monday just gone. Tried the whole range.
Sam i basically agree with all your assessments.
The Gask was the wine for me outpointing Runrig 06
Descendant 07 was florally/apricoty but i didn't mind it.
Woodcutters i could not believe the quality for price.
Ben behind the counter was friendly/professional and very informative
