Hi All,

This is my first post. Yay! I am fairly new to wine and a lot of travlling with my job has allowed me to learn about wine and now I am hooked. Of course I am still a relative beginner and have used James Halliday's recommendations a lot and his Wine Atlas to learn. Of course some people dont necessarily agree with him but he does make wine accessible to people like myself.

I am finding a love for good SA Shiraz and Cab Sauv (doesnt everybody?). I have been trying to start a little collection of wine and am adding at about a bottle a week. now at 52 odd bottles. I try and buy around $15 and intelligent purchasing that will taste great in several years time. The Filsell 06 Shiraz is my favourite wine at present. Others include 2002 Parker Estate Cab Sauv, Vasse Felix wines and Bullant 06 Shiraz for value.

Anyhow back to the topic. I am registered with James Halliday's website with his online cellar. I do like it as it has reviews attached to most bottles I buy and helps to guide me. However the software is not very flexible and I would like to keep better track. Can anyone suggest some nice cheap/free wine software. Perhaps more suited to the Australian market with reviews?

There are numerous options, CellarTracker if you want web access and all the features it provides or numerous PC-based versions (not so many for Macs), including the Access-based free program I make available here: http://redbigot.info/rb_cellar_master_request.htm

Hi Chris,

About 6 months ago I looked into this and settled on cellartrack.com. Quite happy with that choice. I think the biggest advantage of it is the large community of users which means most bottles you add to your cellar are already in the database.

Its got a bit of a learning curve, but really, not too bad.

add another - remarkably flexible and powerful - I actually found it easy to use and I'm a compute luddite.

I use cellartracker, works well. I especially like the links to other community tasting notes of the same wine, so you can see what other people think about the wines in your cellar. Helps sometimes with deciding when to drink certain botlles as they approach their drinking window. Important if you are just starting out in wine or a relative newcomer, like myself.
