Just a thought. Does anyone buy or drink this wine? I've only tried one ,the 98,and thought it was a fine wine that needed quite a bit of time. What gets me though is that I've never been served a bottle by anyone,never seen a bottle in any of my friends cellars,never seen one on a wine list. Where do they shift it? It strikes me as way too pricy now and lacking the cache needed to get people to pay the big dollars for it.
Interested in anyones thoughts. I may be out of touch with reality,but I'm wondering if we won't see a market repositioning a la John Riddoch and Michael somewhere down the track.

I reckon they are now over-priced by a conservative estimate of $30 a bottle.

Anthony, I agree on this one, haven't bought it since it jumped from $45.

I tried a 1996 a couple of months ago (£34.99) and thought it was excellent, but compared to the Beelgara Bonsai 2001 (£15.99) it was slightly overpriced even considering the age difference.

I tried the 87,88, 93,94,95 in last couple years and I think it is a great wine with excellent cellar potential. Now in my cellar, I got at least one dozen of each vintage since 1990 except 97 and 99. In average, it cost around A$50 per bottle. Compare to other top labels such as the Moss wood, Jim Barry or Henshke Cyril, I think it is still value for money.

This wine used to be a staple in my cellar. The 93 cost me about $30 a bottle. I managed to pick up some 98 (on super special) for $50. The recommended retail is now $95 and there is absolutly no way I will pay that much for the wine. I am willing to pay $95 for wine, but not this one, like Ant I think its about $30-45 overpriced.
In poor vintages like 2000.... no comment.

I buy the Eileen,and while its up there in price its a good wine with bottle age.

i buy the stuff every year. sure its expensive but its reliable and cellars well. the only vertical i "collect"

Don't get me started on this wine if you think the 389 post goes on a bit! I bought the 93 on special from Vintage Cellars for $22.50! I lost interest very quickly on this one although I think its a great wine.
I moved on to the Hardy's Tintara at around $15 a bottle to see them nearing the $40 mark now although you can still buy them cheap at auction which is a bit of a reflection on the state of play.
The cheaper Tintara reserve is now what I'm looking at. Wonder what they'll be in five years. I've got a bit of both the 98 cab and shiraz. Should start drinking it soon actually.
