Agree, see its only shiraz that gets the top prices...I'm low on early 90s odd years so may be tempted to back fill a little.
See a certain Adelaide retailer (does it every year) has current releases advertised at $110-135, probably a neat 100% on trade price?
Perhaps a Wendouree swap shop needs to be set up
Cheers Craig

The logic is that most people only want the shiraz, however an order for only shiraz is unlikely to be successful.
So people order all the undesirable stuff like the Muscat in order to get the shiraz. Then offload the Muscat and other stuff at breakeven.
It's a bit like the retail game...retailers have to buy a Piedmont importer's meh wines like Barbera in order to get the cru Barolo.

I wouldn’t describe the other wines as “undesirable”.

+1 I wouldn't either. Really like all the wines.

Plenty of Wendouree on the secondary market.
343 lots at auction a few days ago, all sold.
Cheers Con.

Have Wendouree finished allocations for this year? Seems I have missed out.

Hi Con, 2019 vintage? And at Langton's or elsewhere?
Cheers Craig

Hi Craig.
These were at MW Wine Auctions in Melbourne.
There were no 2019’s, 2018 back to the mid 90’s.
Cheers Con.

Ah yes, think we have had these discussions before. Might have to subscribe to MW, although there are a couple of good auction houses here in Adelaide.

I've already seen a few 2019's floating around on unnamed online sites. The flippers move fast. I got hit up on the CC for some 2019's. I would say about 2/3's of what i ordered and i went all in. I can see SA wendouree offlines in the future masquerading as swap meets.
Bring ya “undesirable” cab Malbecs folks I'll take em all!

I was beginning to panic, literally, being a long time black initial with 30 vintages under the belt, but the planets have re aligned and all is well with the world. It's funny how we all are wanting, hoping, demanding that our cards get emptied and when they do we are so excited! I wouldn't be excited if my wife spent that much on a dress though....
Shhhhh....

I got 2 Shiraz Mataro, 2 Shiraz Malbec, 2 Malbec, 2 Cab/Mal, and 4 Shiraz. Received on last Wednesday 18/8/21. Would have like to have another 6 bottle mix of Shiraz Blends, Malbec and Cab/Mal, as I am keen to sample each wines while they are new and observe the changes over mid to long term cellaring. :/

Hacker,
I am only a rank amateur with 28 signatures under the belt...did the 30 year anniversary get you a full allocation?
Cheers Craig

Hi Craig
I’m not as good at maths as I thought, I first bought the 1990 vintage so that is 29 years. So perhaps next year will be the big one.

I will respect next years small vintage by not ordering much, somewhat like this year. I am lucky and blessed to have this wine going back so far. Finished my last 1991 Shiraz recently and it was fair to muddling but that was probably a cork issue.
Go the screw cap!

I also wouldn't describe Piedmont's Barbera wines as "meh" either, at least not on average or in aggregate.
On the topic of Wendouree, I decided not to participate this year. I have too much Australian wine already in the cellar and the way it is going I still have no idea when I will ever be able to get to it again.

Think I’ve drunk the best and worst Barbera. Love it. It’s hard to describe its enjoyment to many a wine lover as it can be a beer drinking experience in its sameness to many. Certainly miss paying ten bucks Aussie for something so simple yet so culturally entrenched.
Would love a glass of Wendouree. Hurry up and vaccinate Australia

I got hit a couple of days ago, I think about 2/3rd of my order which was 6 of everything including Muscat. Perth, red crayon.

I've had a 2019 Cab/Malbec sitting in a large decanter for a few hours. Lovely so far, plenty of tannic grip.

I’ve pictures somewhere of Wendouree from 20 years ago or so, sitting in decanters and on day three finally being sufficiently nuanced to be deemed approachable. Was an even vintage - 94, 96 or 98…

Allocations are still going on as the CC was hit today for me. Full order (6 of Shiraz and Cab Malbec, 4 of everything else) which was a bit of a surprise - was only expecting half.

Third year no stripe, green stamp. SA. Just got the CC hit.
$732.20 is someone wants to work that out. Roughly half what I asked for.
Happy.

I know there has been a lot of talk on the crayon marks, but as far as I know that has always been on the initial letter. This was the mark on my invoice that arrived today. As I said earlier, I was one of the lucky ones who got all they asked for.

What were you concluding remarks on this, tempted to get a few more when they pop up on the secondary market

Its going to need a lot of time. Really only started to open after 24 hours, even then it could easily have gone another day or two. Plenty of tannin structure to it. I won't be touching another one for ~10-15 years.
Pop one, and give it a try?

Green stamp. Sydney. Ordered 18 bottles. Received letter today stating no allocations for me this year.
