I appreciate your work in organising this Sarah- thanks. I've always been interested in verticals of wine and in particular Coonawarra ones. So I will follow up the suggestion from an earlier post and bring an older and younger wine, in this case Murdock cabernet. Looking forward to meeting everyone again. regards chris

With just over a day to go, it's time to get some idea what everyone's taking. I was originally thinking of a magnum of 1994 Mitchell Cabernet, but I'm having second thoughts (lack of whites/possible overkill for a Thursday night). Also on the scope is a 2008 Lengs & Cooter Watervale riesling, so maybe that with a regular 750ml of the Mitchell will do? On the other hand I do have a 25 year old Peter Lehmann Shiraz handy...
Sarah +1 - 2000 Jeanneret Denis Shiraz, maybe a LaCurio Reserve Shiraz grenache
Andrew Jefford +1
PaulG + Jaz - 2002 Stringy Brae Cabernet, 2006 Samuel's Gorge Grenache
Steve - 2005 Castagna Genesis Shiraz, older Clare Riesling
n4sir - 2008 Lengs & Cooter Riesling, 1994 Mitchell Sevenhill Cabernet or 1984 Peter Lenmann ALS Shiraz
Josh - Red & a white
Sean + Catherine - ?
Lagare Lout - (I'm guessing something by Duane)
David + Pam - (possibly something by Winter Creek)
ck - old & young Murdoch Coonawarra Cabernets
Wayno +1 - 05 Spinifex Indigene, Golding 09 Sauv Blanc, Golding (tank sample) Savignin (ex-Albarino!).
Mark Wickman - ?
Cheers,
Ian

My apologies - I mistyped when saying what we're bringing. The Stringy Brae is a Cab Sauv, not a Shiraz. Sorry!

I've got a 2005 Castagna Genesis shiraz. I may be able to arrange a white if there's interest, but I don't want to contribute to overindulgence
Also, what time is the restaurant expecting us? I had a look through the thread but couldn't see - I'm guessing 7-ish, 7:30?
See you all tomorrow night!

6:30 arrival, I'm guessing aiming for a 7-ish start time.
With 19-20 people there's always the danger of having too many things there, but then we are lacking whites, and I guess the staff will appreciate any leftovers... That said, I'm not planning on leaving them a good chunk of a magnum either.
Cheers,
Ian

For me, now Indigene 05, Golding (tank sample) Savignin (ex-Albarino!) - not sure of vintage and possibly Golding 09 Sauv Blanc.
More whites to add to the mix.

Sorry to hear that Dave, and I was really looking forward to trying that Seppelt DP64 - maybe next time...
That also brings up the question, is anyone taking a sticky to go with the Apple Crème Brûlée? I could take along a 750ml 2003 De Bortoli Noble One, but I'm getting the feeling we're getting overloaded with wine already...
Cheers,
Ian

I've been trying to get over a cold/flu but I've lost the race and won't be well enough to actually taste all those nice wines not to mention the great menu. Sorry for the late notice but I was hoping I would get over it sooner rather then later, but no luck.

Yes, many thanks Sarah - great night and lots of excellent wines. I'll leave the notes to someone more erudite than me!

Well, I'll say this much, the WOTN was certainly the Peter Lehmann 1984 ALS Shiraz. I'm normally against aged wines (which is great as it suits my budget

) but even I was won over by this one.
Honourable mention, though, to the Spinifex Indigene which was also a treat!

I'm leaving the notes to the pro, Ian.
my WOTN was the Peter Lehman, but i liked the Clos Clare Riesling and another riesling which i have forgotten the name of. hehe
Andrew Jefford emailed to thank everyone for a wonderful night. And i noticed this morning he's the covergirl on the current adelaide matters!

Toss up for me between the Peter Lehmann 84 and the Castagna Genesis 05 Shiraz. The Clos Clare 02 and the Mick Knappstein 1987 Riesling were both very good also. The 1987 wine was a pleasant surprise.

Just like to thank Sarah again for putting this together. I've been pretty busy the last week or so and have a backlog of notes to type up - these are the first off the rank...
I'm glad Andrew enjoyed the dinner - I hope he can make it to future offlines, and the Shiraz Challenge on Sunday. I also got a txt from Josh who also passes on his thanks to Sarah for organising the event, and everyone for the great food & wine experience.
Cheers,
Ian
