Called them up and as reported, allocations down this year and worse next ( a disaster they said )

Anyways. See how we go. The days of getting everything seem to be long gone?

2020 was an extremely small crop, the cellar looked empty. 2020 is definitely presenting them a 'headache' with such small quantities and how to potentially distribute it. Obviously many long term buyers on the list to consider.

I would not say the days of getting everything are long gone, just maybe 2019 and definitely 2020. 2021 see volumes similar to 2016/2018. Good, but not excessive production by any means (in the context of old vines that is). We’ve had a very wet July and start to August in the CV, probably the wettest for 4-5 years, hopefully it sets the old vines up for Vintage 2022.

I have so much anyways. Perhaps I’ll cut back my orders in the future.

Checking CT approaching 900 bottles going back to 70’s and including magnums. This was fine as a Wendouree ambassador abroad where you could go through those in a few years. Back home, well, a little more problematic.

COVID keeps giving ! Can’t see borders open for another year plus. Overdue for another Wendouree event in HKG. Last time I presented some 99’s at an annual dinner where they were well received and a mid-90’s Shiraz stole the show as an Armagh ring-in ( vertical Armagh event )

The Wendourees I have tasted post cork, with Guala screw caps have been more pure and 'clean' for want of a better term. Perhaps that coincides with the different technique many have talked about. I had a 2012 Malbec recently and it got better as the night evolved (watching TV, how bloody boring).
No news from my CC yet.

Too bad I didn't get in contact when I lived in HK.
Was there from 2010 to 2013.

My card got hit today, only sent it in the other week. Just a mixed case this year. Maybe filling the smaller orders up first?

When I chatted ever so briefly, order filing system seemed state-based.

My circumstances always confuse. Been a full allocation since 95 with order form going to NSW and wines going to cellar in Adelaide.

Damn frustrating now. My cellar is in Adelaide and I’m locked out of SA. Rarely have a drink these days!

My card charged for what looks like a “half allocation” - I know they hate that terminology.

Since the mid-90’s I’ve received full allocations. Last year I received half due lost order form and a change of address.

Next year will be interesting with minuscule yields. Wish they would bottle in magnums and reward long term customers similar to the scenario with the 1990 Shiraz.

Card charged today. Probably 2/3rd allocation. Asked for
18 including muscat. Hoping to get Malbec and Cab Malb. Been on 11 years. Have a friend who’s been on for same years and same state, SA. He got his order form a week earlier, revived full allocation 24 bottles. Some years I have got and he hasn’t. Random! Happy with anything, savings into Barbareaco’s…

Well, suppose I'll weigh in.
First time in 27-28 vintages have not received a full order.
Since 2008 have always ordered 6 shiraz, 6 cabernet and then 3s or 4s depending on how many wines for the vintage to make up 2 dozen.
Bit of a comedy of errors this year, first mailer never arrived, rang and two weeks later a second one made its way with a thoughtful note attached. Kirsten indicated that a number of Adelaide punters has postal issues, with mailers never arriving. Card charged last week Thursday and delivered today. Shiraz yes, Shiraz Mataro yes, Shiraz Malbec yes, Malbec yes, Cabernet Malbec 3 instead of 6.

Can't really complain, appears with no straight cabernet release this year, the cab blend was in demand and didn't go far.

Will grit the teeth in anticipation for the 2020 release.
Cheers Craig

Nice one Dave.

You know in the 10 years I've been ordering I've never got a full order or an early order.
I'm a red stripe but according to the way it works just unlucky every year.

I generally just end up with the shiraz mataro.

Bit an Aussie vibe happening, with a Vics Meats Hamburger Kit (expensive, but so, so good https://online.vicsmeat.com.au/collections/p ... own-burger)

The Wendouree has heaps of acid, lots of tannins, but almost medium bodied in SA terms. Reckon it will age well. Lashings of pepper, bit of iron, touch of brambles, liquorice.

The acid worked really well with the hamburger/smoked bacon cutting through all the fatty aspects.

There is a sweet spot in a lot of age worthy wines where you can drink them before they close down. Thanks for taking 1 for the team. Nice colour.

No hit on my credit card yet, but they go to the mother in law in Wagga and even if they arrive soon, there is no way we’ll get there from Melbourne soon to try them.

Nice burger Dave.
I had the sirlion pack from Vic's last night. Had it with a 2012 Basket Press. Absolutely on song and in a great place.

Did you order any of the wagyu cheeseburger spring rolls? I did and they are great.
The BBQ sauce in the background is the same brand I use.

The last time I tried a Wendouree Shiraz on release was the 96 I think. Dense and unexpressive for days. Barolo-like.

Mouthwatering picture Dave. Wish my Wendouree order came to my lockdown address and not my cellar.

Red crayon QLD. No charge yet. I can't really afford a lot at the moment so I am really not fussed. More curious than anything now!

good to hear positive stories in the main.....I'm a newbie and missed out this year (completly understandable) so am searching the market to add a Wendouree to my small collection, not having much luck given the high prices but will keep looking. Hopefully next year I get to buy direct.

Next year the vintage will be difficult to obtain so I’m guessing a general scarcity will drive up secondary market prices.

Perhaps look at sourcing back vintages now from good cellars? Prices are not that much more than release when you consider professional storage costs. Winefront reviews and discussions will point you in a good direction for vintages of the Shiraz blends that will deliver great drinking soonish!

Yes no doubt the flippers will be be getting ready for a bit of profit. Perhaps that's where I may obtain an additional 3 cab malbec

On the Shiraz blends the flippers must make fly-buy points only? $57 a bottle with delivery break even nearly $70 at auction to cover commissions. Not much in it?

Card just got hit here as well - Sydney Red stripe.

I ordered a mixture of everything and seemed to get about 80%. So will be interesting when it arrives.
