I got 2 of the last 6 bottles they had at cellar door and whilst I almost always dislike sparkling red this is fantastic. Also still available via an online retailer but whilst it's not sold by Gavin I won't post the retailers details here.

Bizarrely, compared to what it was selling for a decade or two ago, that has the feel of what was the normal pricing adjusted for inflation.

Compared to current prices being asked in most markets, it's waaaay below.

the last of the cellar door fest buys...

3 X 2017 Poonawatta 'The Eden' Eden Valley riesling. Dang these were good. :D
2 X 2015 Poonawatta 4 Corners Eden Valley Cab Sav
1 X 2016 Poonawatta 1919 Eden Valley Shiraz

I did try the 1880 2012 shiraz and it was a very good drop but I balked slightly at the price.
In hindsight probably should've grabbed one. It was the second or third winery I tasted so i was pumping the brakes a little.

Isn't available here in Edmonton anymore - and according to wine searcher the price has gone through the roof. What happened?

Compared to last year has only gone up $10 per bottle. Which was surprising given the vintage. Through our main importer. Some retailers are flogging it for $200 per bottle and plus.

When I first tried this wine, it was 1996 release and I paid CAD30. Since then the price skyrocketed and I stopped buying. This recent vintage is selling for CAD90-100 everywhere now. Lucky me that I found a store that sells it at such low price.

Same here, maybe closer to C$26 for the 1996, then about the same for the 2002, 2004 and 2005. That's where it ended. So altogether a dozen bottles of the Bin 389 all told. However my C$54 purchase was last year, for a couple of 2004 St Henri, a decent price and, most importantly, a back vintage.

Mahmoud.

I tried one of the 2004 St Henri last year. As with many of the 2004 vintage it seems to be taking time to settle down and enter some form of respectable drinking window. So unless you bought plenty or are short of wine, I would hold off opening it for another 5 years min. I personally won't touch the case again this decade.

Thanks for the heads up Mark. Did not buy many, there were only two bottles of the '04 on the shelf. What I do have is a '97 St Henri which was gifeted to me in Sydney some years ago and which I brought back to Canada. It might be time to dig that out.

Went to the cellar yesterday and found the '96 Koonunga Hill and '94 Bin 28 within easy access. Brought the Koonunga Hill and a '98 Bleasdale 'Bremerview' Shiraz home.

I would be careful with the 97. I had a few and ruined a couple by decanting them. Not a great vintage and I found they fell apart really quickly with decanting. Hence I would open and try first before deciding whether to decant or not.

Mark, I've made an error. My St Henri is a 1995, not a 1997! Still, I suspect your advice is probabaly just as relevant, right?

Mahmoud.

I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon with Sam Barry looking at the Florita and Armagh vineyards. Thereafter I tried a number of current and older wines at CD (the 1999 Lodge Hill Riesling was superb). The 2012 is still available from the winery and is part of a plan to rerelease older rizzas. Cheers, Mike
