Would love to have a go, don't know where to start...I'm one of those plebs that does not have a European palate.JamieBahrain wrote:Hmmm I should take those off you for diversities sake ! Want some Barbaresco instead ? Lol
That said, the French Cabs and Rhones that I have had, plus a Few German and French Rieslings have all been pretty good.
I did like the 30 or so bottles that were consumed on two visits to Italy, no ideas to what I was drinking, but again mostly a pleasant experience.
Cheers
Craig.

How long have people gone on the '15? I'm thinking of only going a few as funds and space limits things.

Just went with 6. Realised I still had 8 x 98s, so need to drink up!

I've gone the full dozen. Bought 6, thought some more and grabbed another 6 a few weeks later.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Is that for investment ? You seem awfully long on one wine for a wine lover?phillisc wrote:Ditto Malcolm...have paid $17-22 pb across each of the 6 packs. As you would expect, all sold out at that price now unfortunately.

Re: Wynns Black Label Cab 2015
I don't mind paying $30 if it's a must have wine. A classic if you will.
I've been burnt here before though. Loading up on wines that to be honest, were just well priced and when mature, are dreary echoes of their 97 + ratings and forum hype.
The wine world is a bargain, plenty of great drinking to be had.

How come this 15 BL is nowhere to be found in where I live? I'm in Canada.

The Black Label is available but the 2015 has arrived as yet, so far only the '13 and '14 on the shelves depending on where in Canada. Where are you?FredericoWines wrote:How come this 15 BL is nowhere to be found in where I live? I'm in Canada.

Yes,'13 is easy to find, only one store has the '14 though in limited stock. I have 6 bottles of '13 and 2 of '14. I'm looking for the '15 after hearing so much hype. I'm at Calgary, very close to your oil townMahmoud Ali wrote:The Black Label is available but the 2015 has arrived as yet, so far only the '13 and '14 on the shelves depending on where in Canada. Re: Wynns Black Label Cab 2015
My take, for what' it's worth:
2015 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label - Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra (8/11/2017)
{screwcap, 13.8%, A$27} Lots of talk about how good this is; I haven't tasted a recent vintage BL for a while. This is very ripe and generous; almost sweet on the palate. Tending more to blackberry than blackcurrant, and even with a hint of blueberry fruit. Tannins are very fine, low/medium level, medium acid. Perhaps what seems like very good balance highlights the sheer fruitiness of it; it's so luscious and obviously drinkable now that you suspect its longevity. Medium weight, lacks heat, and with time int he glass it does eventually give a little basil and twig nod to cabernet, rather than say a blend with shiraz or merlot. Probably good enough for a decade or so, not sure after that.
cheers,
Graeme

Re: Wynns Black Label Cab 2015
A very interesting TN Graeme.
I've learnt the hard way that Aussie critics reward rich sweet fruit more than structure and balance (this said very much in the context of 'my palate', others will I'm sure disagree). Useful in hindsight to allow me to graze cooler vintages and producers better aligned to my tastes & happiness to cellar to resolve the structure. To be fair to the Black label, it has often been all too approachable, yet matured brilliantly in the past, so one that it's easy to grab a half dozen of if the price is right - cracking a number of them early is rarely a disappointment.

Happy to throw suggestions in if you are interested, but I reckon the best option would be an offline so you can taste some variety and forumites can enjoy putting some interesting wines in front of you.phillisc wrote:Would love to have a go, don't know where to start...I'm one of those plebs that does not have a European palate.JamieBahrain wrote:Hmmm I should take those off you for diversities sake ! Also plenty of Aussie producers using Italian grapes and I'm keen to try Adelina's nebbiolo, which I note Gavin has stocked before.

It was ... old and a little flat. When I thought about it afterward I thought it may have had a touch of TCA and been scalped. Have another 6 and will be opening another at Xmas. I'll be able to do a proper comparison then.

Just arrived in Adelaide & paid A$47, retail. Will open in a couple of days, in order to see what all the fuss is about. May well be driving pass the cellar door next week; though from previous experience the prices there aren’t sharp.

Cellar door has it for about $28/bottle if you sign up to their Wine Club.

had two bottles of each of the 96 and 98 on a boys weekend just past. Served with multiple other cabs and a huge lamb roast.Michael McNally wrote:And? Don't leave me hanging George!George Krashos wrote:Cracking a '98 tonight to see how they are travelling.

96 was crap and eventually more than a bottle tipped into the sink the morning after. Nobody liked it.
98 was ok, nothing special, but never has been anything special. Half a bottle left the next day. The Black labels were the only wines not drunk.
Wynns were awful in the mid and late 90's.

Re: Wynns Black Label Cab 2015
That seems like an odd outcome considering the recent reviews on cellartracker (2015 to 2017), with the 1997 and 1998 getting more love than the 1996 vintage. Having to pour it down the sink suggests something must be wrong with bottles or else it was poorly stored.
Mahmoud.
PS: I'm not allowed to mention names but a fairly large retailer in Australia is selling the Wynn's BL Cabernet for A$32 per bottle.

Spotted it for A$50/2, today - though a single bottle on the shelf. Opened ours tonight: impressive, good structure & style.
