OK. I'll confirm with Sprout for 10 perhaps 11 on the 21st June at 7:30.

A couple of changes on my line up, I will be bringing Katnook Estate Odyssey Cab Sav 2006 and a Clarendon Hills Sandown Cab Sav 2006, looking forward to meeting everyone.

I have a bad head cold at the moment - I really want to get there but it would not be pleasant for everybody else - it might be better if I cancelled and if I am up for it turn up on the night and take my chance. Would you like me to contact sprout?

My white will be a 2007 Devil's Lair Chardonnay. Hope that suits everybody.

Managed to fish the Noon and the Forest Hill out of the cellar. Only took me an hour of shifting boxes. They better be worth it!

I think for my tastes there was a lot of infanticide last night. The Wirra Wirra was just pipped by the 2004 Leeuwin which will be fantastic in about another 15 years.
Having said that I'd like to come back and look at a few of the wines in 15 years (Moss Woods, 2008 Fraser Gallop, John Forrest, Katnook and Forest Hills).

How was the 2006 Noon Cab Sav?

I left my notebook at the restaurant (or in the cab or I might have eaten it).

Will post some notes from memory this evening.

This was paired with the 2006 Clarendon Hills in a battle I ended up naming King Kong v Godzilla. When I asked which one won, Brett said King Kong, but with all the noise didn't realise I was talking about the wines. I will start a new thread to resolve that debate, but for me neither of the wines represented a varietal Cabernet and were much more Shiraz-like in their fruit profile and structure that was desirable. Many at the table said they would struggle to pick them as Cabernet in a blind line-up.

From memory as I lost my notebook, Godzilla won for most at the table.

The real loser was Tokyo which was again devastated beyond belief.

I'd love to hear more about a couple of the WA reds: the twin vintages of Fraser Gallop and Forest Hill Cabernets. I have 2 or more vintages of each of these wines in the cellar, and would like to know how the vintages mentioned are showing. I'm also assuming you looked at the standard FH, and not the Block 5, as this as not mentioned in the post.

Forest Hill (standard) was my house wine, both for reds (cabernet and shiraz) and whites (chardonnay, and some riesling) a few years ago when I could get them from a local at $17 a bottle by the case. The local in question is now a BWS, and there's no room on the shelves for FH any more. Tears were shed, and the local is no longer frequented.

For the record, the FH cellar door is in Denmark (and it a fabulous building, sadly, I don't think the excellent restaurant is open except for functions now), but the vineyard itself is closer to Mount Barker, and was actually the first experimental vineyard planted in the Great Southern (1965?). Obviously there was expansion after that, but the cellar door location is quite separate from the cellar door. There are a few like that in Denmark - Old Kent River springs to mind, where the cellar door (between Denmark and Walpole, near the coast) is totally separate from the vineyard (50km inland in Rocky Gully). There are others, and maybe it is a function of the geographical diversity of the region.

Oh dear - I digress. I believe this post had something to do with an offline in Brisbane?

So looking at the tasting notes, forget about my few bottles of '06 Noon Cab Sav for other 5-10 years? Try one in 5 years and see how it goes and taste again in decade?

Last time opened one of my Noon's was 2003 Reserve Shiraz.

My remaining bottles won't see light of day for at least 5 years. I actually reckon it will age OK, as even though it's a massive wine, it was quite well balanced.
