I think we might all agree you have a better bottle here than us poor blighters!

I opened a 2002 Tahbilk Marsanne myself over the weekend... bought at auction but this one under screw cap not cork (they must have bottled it under both). Compared to your notes Bob and Bob you can see the benefit of the screwie!!! A much more youthful wine than how it seems to present under cork...

In the glass it was glowing yellow, green. Very youthful appearance. On the nose there was the varietal honeysuckle, with some lemon curd/citrus notes. On the palate the same carries through with just a hint of characteristic "oiliness". The acidity remains present and suggests this will keep for several years yet.

About the differing experiences with the 2002 Tahbilk Marsanne my guess it is the result of storage and not the cork. Here is a link to my experience with the 1992 Tahbilk Marsanne:

Tahbilk Marsannes keep for a very long time and my guess is that Sam's (swj_11) note more accurately reflects the state of a well preserved '02 Marsanne. The Tahbilk website believes that the '02 still has between 3+ years of development ahead of it.

PS: Of course If I had a bottle of the '02 I would likely keep it longer than recommended as I did with the '92. Great stuff.

Interesting comments here on Tahbilk's, been member of the wine club since 2000/2001 and my mother for even longer.

Love their Marsanne's. Recently drank some of the 1927 Vines Marsanne, '00, '01, and '02 Vintages.

I have had some disappointing corked wines from them in the past, good thing they have turned screw-capped but end of the day, I miss some of their old corked vintages, but guess it's something a lot of wineries are stuck dealing with these days, there's always people who are pro-cork and anti-cork.

Had a telemarketer call yesterday with a Tahbilk offer of a dozen cab or shiraz 2000 for $189 and 1999 (I think) marsanne for $186 (I think). I was seriously tempted, vacillated before declining due to some impending bills. Naturally, the offer was for wine club members. Interestingly there was the mention of a "cheeky" 6pk but I didn't enquire further about that. I did ask about a mixed dozen though and it seemed that was also an available option.
