I like the mouthfeel of a balanced mature CNDPJamieBahrain wrote:I'm drinking 2000 Clos des Papes from magnum and it's right where mature CNP should be.
Henschke will exchange the Mt Ed 98 btw.
So CellarTracker (which I find usually understates or rather underestimates windows) has that in a good spot, factoring MAGNUM size, maybe a little longer? I can't imagine how much better they must be with some agemichel wrote:I like the mouthfeel of a balanced mature CNDPJamieBahrain wrote:I'm drinking 2000 Clos des Papes from magnum and it's right where mature CNP should be.

Ouch! 2010 was supposed to be a perfect vintage. Maybe it's closed down?odyssey wrote:2010 Hoddles Creek 1er Pinot Noir - Too much alcohol heat on opening, some of that blew off and left a clunky middling expression of Pinot Noir, a bit of oak, in general it leaves little of interest for me. Neither elegant or floral, nor complex or earthy, nor fresh with juicy acid.
My second bottle of this wine (the last tasted 4 years ago) and I still remain unimpressed. Maybe it will magically turn around in time, but I haven't seen it yet.
I was buying some 2008s of this a few years ago. Absoulety loved them couldnt keep my hands off. A generous c.d to visit aswel. Always leaving with freebiesMichael McNally wrote:1999 Charles Cimicky Signature Barossa Shiraz. 14%. Cork. Auction. A good bottle with a sound (unsoaked) cork. Some browning but still good colour. Fruit is still there in the background as a kind of blackberry support, but this is really secondary, and tertiary with lots of leather, spice and old wood. Finish is very good with long finely resolved tannin sustaining the flavours well. As I said. A good bottle.
Yeah I'm a bit over getting a paddle and half the beers have fruit or some other adulterant in it.Chuck wrote: The Yanks have come a long way since Bud and other bland beers of 20 years ago. Was there last year and they are doing some really good craft beers. My thirst for IPAs was well sated although there was just too many to get through them all.

I find the Hoddles 1er pinot a tad clunky & bigodyssey wrote:swirler wrote:Might it needs more than one night? Maybe a few yearshoping it would come back up with air, a touch more fruit but it's still a big wine. Maybe I'll tee the last third of the bottle up with some rare steak.
Is MacForbes also in your arc of Aus Pinot?michel wrote:I find the Hoddles 1er pinot a tad clunky & bigodyssey wrote:swirler wrote:Might it needs more than one night? As nice as that wine was - geez I hope the Black pinot doesn't taste like that,...michel wrote:CoolWizz wrote:Got some of the 14 Black, we'll give it a whirl one daymichel wrote:

I actually liked the MacForbes fortified? Shiraz you opened (he says sheepishly)

Nice work. Don’t think I’ve had that vintage, so great to read your experience with itHacker wrote:Had a 1998 Pierre Peters Cuvee Special, the precurser to Chetillons. In a good place, rich, soft, buttery and toasty. Doubt it will get better than this.
Gone are the great DeBurgh day era experiencesfelixp21 wrote:1996 Ornellaia Masseto
best Merlot out of Italy, and amongst the best going around. Sadly, my second-to-last bottle of this vintage, which is a favourite of mine. This vintage, the wine is a little more restrained than, say, the massive vintages like 1997. Beautiful acid cut, deep black fruits, spice and a hint of anise. Glorious drinking. Purchased when the prices (even in Australia) were not absurd. As good as all but the very very top tier of Right Bank, indeed, I would drink this in front of Cheval any day.
now, this is $1000/bottle, which is sadly justified in the current pricing structure. Awesome experience, 97pts.
on another note, anyone here remember the DeBurgh-Day era? Haha, I used to purchase Miani Merlot from him in the early 90's for $20 a bottle. The same wine is now also about $500 bottleWhy I remember it well, is because of the price, I used it as a great "quaffing" wine, and remember thinking it was ridiculously good for the price. Now of course, it would be opened with due reverence and respect, and offers a totally drinking experience. Funny hiw price changes our perception of wine, even if sub-consciously.
Doesn't look that bad at all.TiggerK wrote:...so not bad drinking last night.... OMG Coche is stellar. 2011 Meursault-Perrieres was incredible.
