Sorry to hear that guys - I guess Tom Sellick will have to make an appearance at the next offline then John.
Looks like the final number going will be about 20 people - remember to BYO glasses. For those still deciding what to take (or having to find a last second replacement), I reckon a Pinot, aromatic white or bubbles could be a good choice.

No problem Dave - I was guessing the timing could be rather tricky.

Hi
I'm an irregular visitor to this forum.
I saw this thread and noticed that you're visiting T-chow. Those attending are just in luck as T-chow has been sold and Saturday 28th is Chef So's last day. Enjoy it.
Cheers

I got a phone call this afternoon to confirm the booking and I asked what's happening. I was told the ownership will change over after Sunday, but the staff will be unchanged.
Cheers,
Ian

Bad news, my supply of Blue Pyrenees has fallen through so I headed to East End Cellars, and was recommended the Carlei Green Vineyards 2004 Heathcote Shiraz, so we'll be bringing 3 of those - if they are shockers, I blame East End Cellars!

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been in touch, I'm caught in the dilemma of not being able to get there until 8-00pm and I don't want to cancel - missed the last couple of offlines and I greatly enjoy them.
I can come then with a couple of bottles of the 2005 earths first reisling ( it won top wine at last years adelaide show) or the 2005 penfolds gerwurtztraminer (recently reviewed by Ian) or even a bottle of each. Alternatively if everyone is well and truly stuck into the reds I could bring an old 1975 reynella vintage port to help round off the evening.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
regards chris

That's not the Earth's Portrait reisling, is it? Lovely wine if it is! (however I'm really happy for a port

)

Hi Chris,
1975 Reynella VP gets my vote, followed by the Gewurztraminer. I reckon we'll be into the reds by the time you get there and I was very disappointed in the 05 Earth's Portrait at an instore last week - to be blunt I don't think it's up to the occasion.
Cheers,
Ian

I retract my comment on the excellence of the Earth's Portrait then
Granted I don't believe it was the 05 I tried!

Two bottles should be enough (as long as one of them isn't corked) - we seem to be a little lean on whites, so maybe the third bottle could be one?
That reminds me, where possible guys please open your wines in advance to leaving and check they're okay.
Just got a text from Sarah and she's changed what they're taking to 2x 1999 St Henri. Joe forgot he was going to a mate's bucks night tonight and is a last minute cancellation.

Well, it must have been fate, but Jaz and I were on our way home from an impromptu trip to the Mount Lofty botanic gardens when we saw a sign for Ashton Hills. We dropped in and picked up a bottle of their Riesling, which was quite lovely (and I can't recall the last time I liked a Riesling!)
So tonight we'll have 2 Shiraz's and 1 Riesling

Just wanted to say a thank you for a fun night. Great to see old friends again and to meet new ones.
Hope we can get another offline in when I return after harvest.

Thanks again Ian for organising another fabulous night
I'm putting up my hand for the next offline organisation (depending on the date)
have had a quick look for location options including
Russell's Pizza in willunga ($35/head for a 3 course meal inc all corkage) Fabulous place and definitely worth the trip!
XO & Caledonian - no corkage tuesdays
Sato ( Japanese on Melbourne st) $7/bottle

Russell's would be awesome but we'd probably need to get a minibus or something from somewhere central-ish in Adelaide... either that or recruit some designated drivers

or we could scout out cheap local accomodation and wake up to the farmers markets and breakfast at Fino...

Once again, thanks to Ian, and everbody else, for putting on a wonderful evening.
Further thanks for everyone's understanding of the dietary requirements of the token Jew

.
Those locations sound great, Sarah, although I agree that transportation to/from Willunga may be something of an issue...

A quick thanks to Nayan for taking care of the ordering this time, and everyone who went along. It was a great evening with some interesting wines - I've been busy with quite a few things the last couple of days (and have a dinner to go to tonight) so I'm hoping to get some TNs up by the second half of the week.

Had a thought about this, and maybe the ideal time for a offline field trip down that way could be during Brian & TORB's next SA trip. It would be a great chance to catch up with the Bigot Bros along with Roger Pike, and if we got enough people a mini bus there and back sounds like a possibility.
Cheers,
Ian

That sounds like a good plan.

sounds great.
I looked up the willunga pub and they have singles for $30 and doubles for $60 if people want to stay.
Andrew Jefford should definitely be invited along to this one, and maybe in light of his recent article in the australian/.advertiser, we could make it an aussie boutique wines theme?

So I was thinking, as it's been a while since the last offline, how about a May offline? perhaps the weekend of the 23rd? Just a thought - I know Scanlon wanted to organise...
