Giaconda- everything is top rank
Mount Mary: close to top rank in all wines
Grosset with some doubts about the pinot, but Gaia and the whites claim top rank

Cullen just missed out because it definitely has a weak pinot just shading Moss Wood with a similar weakness.Cullen has a better chardonnay.

Petaluma would be another contender for its sheer consistency at a high level.

A couple to consider would be:
Seppelt & Penfolds (of course)
Bannockburn (not a huge selection but quality across the range)
Orlando (great selection of premium reds and handy whites also)

Wayne hasnt been going that long. You either got in on the action early or have bought a lot of his wines.
I cant wait to see the 02 Oscar and reserve shiraz in bottle- in the barrel they are pretty smart stuff.

I would make Grosset my desert island vineyard if I could drink only one winery.
The sparkling chardonnay was very good as well.
Tried the 2000 pinot last night and it smelled of beetroot and wet hay- I have to agree with you I just dont know if he pulls it off.

For me the current numbers are

Rockfords - 43 bottles (mainly BP 91 thru 2000..16 1999s!!)
Charles Melton - 28 bottles (a mixture..mainly nine popes and shiraz)
Stonier - 16 bottles (all reserve pinot 97,98,99,00,01 vintages)

The Stonier's will probably all dissapear over the christmas break with a series of duck/ pinot dinners involving verticals of stoniers reserve with quite a few other premium pinots to compare to...the Rockies gets cracked occasionally..but the collection is slowly decreasing as since i left Adelaide i'm limited to the amounts i can get thru the mailing list..the old cellar door is a little far away..

If i had to choose 3 aussie producers it would be

Rockfords
Seppelts
Mt Mary

I wasn't too far off. Michel's right, Dutschke wines haven't been around long, but we do buy a lot of wine from Wayne and our cellar is relatively young. Dutschke is a fantastic emerging label and I'm thrilled to be part of their growth.

1st = Penfolds @ 18%

2nd= Rockford @ 11%

3rd= Wynn's @ 9%

4th= Cullens, Henschke & Grosset @ 5%

5th= Petaluma @ 4%

Bored in Bahrain and based on 93 votes. Took 1st , 2nd, 3rd only.

Not really a revelation to be honest.

Reinforced my desire to get some Grosset in the cellar.

Mine is not a big cellar, so a big purchase from a single vintage can knock this order around a lot: surprising result though. By Volume:

#1 is Rockford, then a 4 way tie(!) between Penfolds, Vasse Felix, Majella, Seppelt.

By Value:

Rockford, Penfolds, and then a ring in, Greenock Creek (Some Roennfeldt Roads from the cellar door visit).

Like Wizz, my collection is rather small - struggles to stay above 100 blts.

By volume:

1. Cullen
2. Turkey Flat
3. Penfolds/Tahbilk about level

Value is pretty interesting though. Penfolds: 1/btl Grange 96, 2/btls Bin 707 98, 2/btls St Henri 96, 2/btls Bin 389 98 & 2/btls Bin 128 98 - that's 9/blts of Penfolds, say $800. Blows a case of Turkey Flat Shiraz 98-01 (of varying vintage quantities) clear out of the comparison.

Cullen wins the value comparo through volume although at a significantly lower average $/btl. Tahbilk is 3rd in value thanks to a magnum and a few btls of 1860s Shiraz as well as couple of Reserves.

By wines its a multiple tie:

Giaconda and Rockford (8% each)
Veritas and Wild Duck Creek (5% each)
Seppelt, Noon, Jasper Hill, Fox Creek and Crawford River (4% each)

By bottles

Fox Creek - 80
Rockford - 66
Jasper Hill and Crawford River - 64 each

Kind of at the mercy of the wine shop in my little Oklahoma burg. Not a lot of variety don't you know. Cellar consists of 45% Australian, 32% California, & the rest from Italy, France & Washington state.
