Sorry - the 23rd I have something on already

are we still definitely settled on the 23rd? there's myself and 2 others that will be there if it's not that date

and the other two are new additions to offlines with some seriously good wine taste

The date hasn't been settled yet - so far Chris is the only one who has a clear preference for Saturday the 23rd, you and markg during the week (at this stage let's say Thursday the 21st). I'm leaning towards the Thursday right now if nobody else speaks up before the end of the week.

I think Sarah may be talking about Catherine and me. We're relatively recent arrivals, from London of late, though I'm originally from the US. I'm the novice of the pair, while Catherine has been tasting her way around the world for almost a decade. I can't vouch for "seriously good wine taste" but we're both certainly keen, and looking forward to the dinner.

Thursday 21st is also the first day of the Clipsal 500 car race carnival.

Will this change anything, ie make bookings more difficult, or cause transport problems for some?

Despite it being the first day of the Clipsal (which is usually the quietest) I think the majority prefer to have it on the Thursday (sorry Chris). I'll ring up T-Chow next week and make a booking for 6:45 for a 7:00 start.

As it's during the week maybe we should stick to a 1 bottle/person limit this time, although as usual white wines, stickies and sparkling wines don't count as one bottle for this purpose!

Are we looking at only Pinot Noir or are any of the mutations of Pinot (Pinot Gris, Pinot Meunier etc) acceptable?

T-Chow is now booked for Thursday the 21st, 7:00 start, BYO glasses.

I had an appointment with an oral surgeon today and I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out on the 20th... so I'm going to have to pike.

OK

Time to start the ball rolling.

Sue will be bringing an Escarpment 2006 Pinot.

I will be bringing a 1991 Show Sparkling Shiraz (some will have had this before about 6 months ago, is this OK?)

I will also bring an "options" Pinot (with label and capsule removed)

Coincidentally I had my damaged wisdom tooth patched up today in the dentist chair - no removal, so I should be back in action as soon as the numb sensation wears off tonight.

I'm still deciding which Pinot to take along, so I'll wait a bit until I see what others are taking. 91 SSS is fine John - if we've got over 10 Pinot Noirs I think people will be looking for something else to drink too, so I think some other Pinot variations would also be welcome David.

Not sure which Pinot I will bring - will probably decide closer to the day. I have one i was given, but not sure about its background/quality (although the giver usually picks something nice).

I'm likely to bring the Grosset '05 Pinot. However, I'm also tempted to go for something a bit older as I'd like to taste an aged Aussie Pinot. I'll make my decision when more cards are on the table.

I'm still waiting to see what others are taking before making up my mind - as I mentioned in another thread two candidates are a 1999 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Pinot Noir (would this be old enough Gustav?) or a 2005 Bouchard Père & Fils Bourgogne (which despite the rather steep price for an entry level Burgundy I'm now having some doubts about after reading quite a few disappointing reviews on Cellartracker & eBob).

There are actually quite a few others I could choose from, or just pick up a new release for that matter - it really depends if we want a diverse range of Pinot from various vintages/regions for the night, or to focus on a bunch of new/ready available releases as a kind of head-to-head battle.

I tried this a couple of years ago, and if you want an example as to how Aussie Pinots develop then don't pick this one. If you want to know how a Pinot Noir made by a heavy handed Shiraz maker, with little sense of finesse ages, then this is the wine for you. (Their Pinot making has vastly improved in recent years)

I tried this a couple of years ago, and if you want an example as to how Aussie Pinots develop then don't pick this one. I haven't tried it for a number of years and figured it was about time to get around to it. If it's that bad it could actually be a great example to take, just for the hell of it!

The next oldest I can produce would be a 2001 Leabrook Estate - if you want something older Gustav, someone else will have to supply the goods.

Pam and myself are having great trouble in finding any accommodation for the 21st - Clipsal i guess. (The Barossa is too far to drive back to after an ofline!) ((anywhere is too far))

Unless we turn something up in the next day or so we will have to bail out.
Was looking forward to Pinot and duck.

Thanks for trying to please my inquisitiveness Ian! Maybe it would be cool to bring the Penfolds Reserve Pinot '99 despite it's reputation? I ended up buying the Grosset '01 Pinot Noir. I think it's gonna be a wonderful offline. I'm really looking forward to tasting heaps of Pinots as I haven't had tasted much of that variety here yet.

i have another 4 wine friends who are keen on coming to the dinner, but i know we've already got a pretty big group. should i tell them maybe next time?
