Drunk:
Peter Lehmann Mentor 2001. We drank this wine over three nights. First day we were quite dissapointed. The wine appeared very closed up, not releasing much aromas or tastes. The structure and mouthfeel was magnificent, but somehow the flavours were locked up in the wine. The second and third day it had opened up more and showing a bit of blackcurrant and plum flavours. Mabye it should have had some more years in the cellar?
Gomersal Shiraz 2004. Hedonistic and fruity shiraz with ok structure and length. A bit too much oak perhaps.
Tasted:
Gomersal Shiraz 2005 Distinct shiraz aromas, pure fruit flavors, good structure
Gomersal Riesling 2006 Sedate aromas of lemon, good acid but I tasted better today.
Gomersal Shiraz Rose 2006 Just not my type of wine....
Gomersal Fortified Shiraz 2005 Very nice, intense fruity blackberry flavours, very drinkable
Peter Lehmann Eight Songs Shiraz 2002 I love it!
Peter Lehmann Futures Shiraz 2004 Quite disappointing...a bit to harsh?
Peter Lehmann Stonewell 2002 Fantastic! A complete wine. Excellent structure and length.
Peter Lehmann Barossa Riesling 2006 Very “closed up” bouquet, but fresh and limey taste
Peter Lehmann Botrytis Semillon 2006 Very fruity sticky. Honey flavours. Not much botrytis aromas and taste (which I like).
Rockford Riesling 2006 Huge, floral bouquet. Much more mellow lemony taste, but good length and crisp acid.
Rockford Semillon 2006 Fresh seawater on the nose. Not a favourite.
Rockford Rod & Spur Shiraz Cabernet 200? Pleasant, but nothing special.
Rockford Shiraz Vintage Port 1999. Best wine of the day. Fantastic!!! Tar, hyperconcentrated black fruit, aftertaste lasting for ages.
At the Feast for the Senses festival (in Adelaide) I was fortunate enough to be invited into the VIP tent by David (owner and winemaker of Winter Creek wines). Thanks a lot David! He offered tasting of the following wines:
Winter Creek Grenache Shiraz 2004 Lovely hedonistic wine with a good mouth feel and a pinch of that grenache spiciness.
Winter Creek Grenache Shiraz 2005 Once again a perfectly ripe grenach shiraz blend, bursting with flaovur.
Winter Creek Shiraz 2004 Fruit driven shiraz with very good structure.
Winter Creek Shiraz 2005 (not yet released)Very aromatic bouquet, concentrated dark fruit on the palate with a touch liquorish and dark chocolate. Fabulous structure and length with wonderful tannins. This is definitely a wine for my taste! An order coming your way David!
