Hi Neil,
You will love the Longhop, however just watch it, you can easily polish of a bottle and its certainly not a low alcohol wine.
I have also just ordered a carton. It is a quality wine
Cheers

Try the Earthworks Shiraz from langmeil... As I have heard them say it's the worse Shiraz they make - tongue in cheak. I am a big fan of it personally.

I dunno, I've enjoyed some of the above wines including Footbolt 04, Longhop shiraz 06, Mike Press' shiraz 05, 06 and cab 05. Taylors more recent efforts, 04 and 05 have been very enjoyable too.
But recently I've been revisiting Tahbilk shiraz. The 02 is very nice, 03 nice too, riper, very plummy with lively acid. Tahbilk really is one of the best value wineries around with mostly very good wines at good (club) prices.

I must say the 555 has always done something for me too El Josho. The Footbolt also a pretty good drop and seems to be priced increasingly lower these days.
Wynns Shiraz used to be a good sub $15 wine but can't touch the stuff nowadays.
Must try all this Mike Press stuff and the Longhop sounds good too...

And before anyone jumps in I am the proprietor of Squashedgrape (the first link here) and want everyone to be aware of that. And I have also put our competitors links up for this product also and note that it isn't currently listed on the Australian Wine Centre site...
Matthew, even with the disclaimer and the fact that Gavin doesn't stock it, it's still not good form to post links to competitor's sites on Gavins forum. In the case of your own link, I'd class that as advertising and suggest Gavin send you a bill.

Not judging, just making an observation. I like your site

Stuart,
I don't quite follow the comparison you are making, but Gavin has long tolerated the link to my site in my sign-off, it will disappear if he asks me to remove it.
BTW, my balance with Google AdSense after nearly 3 months hasn't yet reached the $100 figure where they actually send off the money.
Don't you guys find those wonderfully appropriate adverts worth clicking on?
I assume I have to declare it as income too, at this rate I'll probably just take off the adverts and stop annoying people.

Seems like a bit of an overeaction Matthew
If this was a fully independant forum then the disclaimer you posted identifying you as selling the wine you referred to would probably have covered it. But it's not hard to see how posting links to your site on Gavin's would cause problems, given you're both online retailers.
Sure he may not sell this particular wine but you're both obviously fairly direct competitors.
It also seems a little unnecessary given when I google the wine in question, your site shows up top of the list

For the record, Matthew didn't like me outing him as being ITB after he emailed me when I replied to his original post. He also didn't appreciate me telling him that his business model had been tried a few times before, without much success.
The "unwritten rule" was pretty clearly explained back when he first posted too:

Matthew, if you have something other than self-promotion to contribute, great, stay on, but if this petulant and inaccurate post is all you have to offer then you won't be missed.

I don't ever remember reading any Terms and Conditions when I joined this forum that no other competitors or links were to be posted. If there is such then I apologise. But this is obviously an unspoken law and it simply reinforces my belief that this forum has not been created to provide a service but is an exclusive advertising portal for AWC.
That's fine and I think that it's a great idea. Wish I'd thought of it
All I suggest is that this is made clear at the time of sign up.
I wouldn't think that a mention here or there of products that AWC doesn't even stock would be an issue but obviously both AWC and Red Bigot are concerned that this will result in loss of sales and their own exposure.
I hereby, lay down my axe that has been ground to the butt end... And will leave you all in piece to talk about AWC wines... Not anyone elses, just AWC's. You all got that?
With all due respect Matthew, Gavin is extremely tolerant in comparison to other forum operators - I'm pretty sure the post would have been zapped pretty much instantly elsewhere.
If you had just said the Langmeil Earthworks shiraz was a top drop fair enough, then added that because Gavin doesn't seem to stock it if anyone's interested PM you for details or to contact the winery, fine.
Ultimately Gavin's running a business and generously providing this forum at no cost and at his own expense and time - he's a big supporter of the wineries and is pretty happy for people to order direct form them and fully support the guys making the stuff, but still he has to protect his business.
Cheers,
Ian

I have now removed all my posts. While I cannot remove those who have quoted me at least there are no links anymore...
I have also removed my link from my profile...
Hope that this solves the issue? Gavin , Brian are we 'cool'? I'm not one to hold a grudge...
I still stand by the Earthworks Shiraz as a consumer... And it has pretty much become my everyday drinking red.
I also enjoyed recently the Grant Burge Shiraz. Not a bad drop...

Yeah, we're 'cool', glad you decided to stay around.
Which Grant Burge Shiraz/vintage, there are quite a few? Barossa Vines, Miamba, Filsell, etc up to Meshach.

Just the barossa Vines, keeping within the price range.

I didn't mention it because I've given up on Chalambar for a while, had a bad experience with 3 bottles of the 2004 (two duds and one just acceptable) and haven't been impressed by two bottles of the 2005, either, even after extended breathing. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but there must be a reason it's been sold off under $15...

Fair enough. I have seen the Miamba 2005 pretty close to $15 though, a very good wine at that price.

couldn't agree more with you. very average wines.
my sister in law has been drinking a McWilliams 2005 Shiraz, has been a very good quaffer this week (not sure of the exact wine/label).

Peter Lehmann Shiraz can often be found discounted under 15 bucks I'm always on the lookout for that. Also agree with other writers' mention of Footbolt though find it hard to get under 15 these days. Have also enjoyed some vintages of Houghton, and Tahbilk is good value too.

Hey there, new here... I have a couple of shiraz that I'd recommend that are either old favourites or I have tried recently..
Footbolt Shiraz (old faithful)
Taylors Shiraz (old faithful)
Earthworks Shiraz (tried the 2005)
Elderton Friends Vineyard Series (you have to get it on special under $15)
I also have some Shiraz Viognier blends that I quite enjoy but not sure if they fit this topic assuming it is just for straight Shiraz...
Thanks Charles

Dunno if I just got bored with it but the last couple of bottles of Footbolt 04 haven't impressed as much as earlier bottles. Taylor's 05 estate red duo are excellent vfm. Some seem to prefer the cab but the shiraz is my pick.

Yeah I guess the footbolt, as I said, is a bit of an 'old faithful'. This is one of those you can always pick up and be safe with. I have been trying a few others recently being the last two on the list and have been suprised. I agree witht he Taylors. I've always preferred the shiraz over the cab. But maybe that's just my flavour profile as I tend to drink more shiraz than Cab. I prefer an aged Cab like the 99 Willespie from the Margaret River I'm drinking at the moment rather than a young cab. Whereas with Shiraz I feel I can drink these younger. I hate to generalise like this...

The Shotfire 04 and 05 duos are good value. I've stashed my remaining bottle of shiraz 04 and a few of the Quartage 05. I've mostly seen the Shotfires around $18 when they're not $20+.

This must be one of the greatest value reds on the market. I have had both the 04 and now 05 and they are extremely good. Drinking like any wine in the 30-40 dollar range.

I haven't tried the Peter Lehman Shiraz for ages. It's one of those things that you miss everynow and then... So many wines, so little time.
I did have a bottle of the 05 Jeanneret 'Rank and File' Shiraz on the weekend. Got it direct and while it's over the $15 mark I think it was around $20 thought it was quite well made. Really good body and fruit with undertones of licorice...
