Gary & Adair
There was no obvious TCA problems with the wine. Even upon nosing the cork, not a fail safe method of course, there were good nuances of sweet black cherry and spice.
The black cherry and subtle dark fruit notes did not flow onto the palate at all; which seemed overly pepper, floral and spice dominated. Reminding me of some 01 Cote Roties that had more than the usual dollop of viognier.
Great bottles of this vintage, consumed a few months ago, had beautifully interwoven black fruits, pepper and spice. A pleasant floral lift aswell, but nothing dominating and a long wave of acid and fine tannin to complete.
Bottle variation or closing down? Some of the former fruit quality definately shy.
I had a Clonakilla SV 01 that suffered mild TCA in June. It was different to the above. The TCA seemed to kill of the trademark fragrance which wasn't missing in the above bottle.
In saying this, when will Clonakilla be going stelvin?
Pushed my remaining couple of bottles to the back of the wine fridge, however, will try again this weekend. I can still purchase the wine in Hong Kong for about the same price as Australia- a local wine scribe mentioned in the local paper Clonakilla SV a good Rhone "village" wine and a cult wine back home! Both remarks seem to have balanced each other out to produce modest sales only.
