Had a look at a couple of Pennies releases today
2023 Bin 51 EV Riesling... texture is like water, as is the flavour...where is the acidity...yeah nah
2023 Bin 28, ok, nice mouthfeel good depth, will cellar well
2023 Bin 389 can't see the value here at $100+ remember paying $10-12. A fraction green and lacks fruit and depth.
2022 St Henri...this is more like it, solid fruit profile, chocolate, cherry notes, strong finish firm tannins rounds out nicely. The pick of the 3 reds.

The '86 Bin 389 was an epiphany wine for me back when we moved to Adelaide in 1990. Wow, fruit, power. I think it cost $8.99. Went back for another 6-pack and was convinced the '87 was as good as. Tried one and returned to store (old Bailey and Bailey on Goodwood road; you might remember them) and they were happy to swap for more '86.

I purchased a dozen '86 Bin 28, monumental wine, all Kalimna, not the declassified rubbish that they put in it nowadays and a dozen '86 389 at the Royal Oak in O'Connell St. North Adelaide. The chap charged me $8/bottle each, made a mistake on the 389
Think there are 1 or 2 left of each, will look good next year I reckon.

Funny, brought a house in Goodwood in 1990, fondly remember Di who served me many many times at B&B on Goodwood Rd ( its a BWS now, but right next door to one of my favourite restaurants Qualitaly).
Made many visits to Goodwood Cellars and also King William Road Cellars, on the bend.
They had a full set of Grange stolen one night, and sold the business shortly thereafter.

We digress a bit but I remember well Di at B&B on Goodwood Road. She was vertically challenged and had to stand on a wooden box when at the counter serving.

I recall the store on the bend of King William had some sensational back vintages of great wines until (if my memory serves me well) there was a massive after hours robbery. Poor owners lost heart and closed soon after, I think

Trying to source some Produttori Barbaresco, as I ordered a 2015 bottle in a restaurant last week and it was fabulous! Apparently the 2021 vintage is very good.

It was $455 delivered when I ordered in January. Took a few months to get here but worth it for the price.

When buying a case or two every year it was $30 in Hong Kong. Probably $45 now.

Think I’ll move back overseas. Australia is just a tax regime. Wouldn’t mind if we nation building. WET is a very questionable tax considering the glut and tax incentive investments into the wine industry years ago.

Another 6 x Arila Gardens 2022 Gardens of Moppa Barossa Shiraz. Very nice drop that has potential to age over the medium term. Nice tannin profile

2012 Barbaresco, Asili, Cascina Luisin, Piedmont, Italy x 6 ... spotted these on BBX for £99 (in bond) which seemed remarkably cheap for Barbaresco with some age, even if not a super heralded producer.
