Con, was the 79 Pewsey under screwcap...had the pleasure of trying one many moons ago, was as fresh as a daisy.
Well done on the 82 JRs...down to my last 6 or so.
Cheers Craig
Hi Craig.

The 79 Pewsey Vale is under both cork and screw cap.

I’ve got no self control mate, when I see these old Aussie legends in great condition I have to have them.

I looked at the Centenary magnum, this is another wine you can’t have enough of in the cellar.

Cheers Con.

Oh yeah I forget I ordered more Talijancich fortifieds.

2 of the museum fortified packs which includes.
1 X 30 year old Rare Tawny blend No6.
1 X Julian James Liqueur Shiraz 1981 solero blend No2.
1 X Julian James rare Pedro solero blend No2.

3 X Julian James Reserve Muscat 1961 Solero blend No14.
If I read their website correctly every time they bottle it’s blend No changes and this is the last blend from this solero.

3 X 2007 Pedro Ximenes Liqueur.
They have been buying this fruit for 55 years and say this is their best wine they have made in that 55 year period.

This is an area I really want to explore for their fortified wine.

Cheers Con.

True, if i read you right 79 Pewsey under cork and screwcap, will be a good side by side comparison.
Yes down to my last half dozen of Centenary...$30 on release seems rather cheap now

I think I paid $22 for the Centenary Craig. Couldn’t fit the magnums in my old racks, so disappointingly, I didn’t buy any

1 x 2008 Mt Mary Quintet
12 x 2004 Reschke Vitulus Cabernet (could be anything, but worth a try at $7/b)
6 x 2008 Yalumba The Cigar (already have some of this, it is drinking excellently now)
1 x 2009 Ch Fonreaud Bordeaux (cheapish Cru Bourgeois)
The wine arrived this afternoon. Immediately went to the 2004 Vitulus, absolute bargain for 7 bucks.

Mike, think I paid $23 for '86 JR...you got a good price for the Centenary. I didn't have any wine connections back then, like I do now.
It was a big spend, I remember it well, a dozen each of 91 JR, Michael, Centenary and BL Cab. Yes magnums for some reason were not on my radar, said it before, can still see the 3 sitting on the rack in the DJs food hall

Have you drank any of these yet Con ?

I saw the Pewsy as well and was tempted. There are a couple of vertical tastings in the site notes though that indicate it may not last that long. Worth splashing out on though as there can’t be many of that age and color around.

Does anyone know the logic behind having a screw cap and a cork ? I have a couple of bottles of Port that have the same duel stoppers and can’t think why it was done.
This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts.

12 2022 Gaelic Cemetery Riesling...fell off the back of a truck
The 2022 Riesling train is gaining momentum!

Cheers Craig
Craig haven't purchased this since the 2017 vintage. Not sure why?

Anyway, how does this stand up against other Rieslings from the 2022 vintage? Always good value for money IMO.
AJ, the Gaelic Cemetery is what I would put in the lighter style of Riesling category, from a textural point of view. It doesn't have that laser like acidity, more of a softer style that is very easy drinking, with a twinge of sweetness. I just finished some 2013s, they were still in good shape 10 years on.
Will pop one when it arrives. But for $11 a bottle, whats not to love?

Had a look at MW auction results, see the centenary magnums went cheap, but all mid shoulder. In 1500ml format should be right in the slot, but hopefully not too much oxidation from increased ullage. I may take a punt on one next time. There is a perfect example of one doing the rounds here in SA, but the vendor needs a reality check, apparently wants $500+.

Might have to have a look at other Wynns stuff, seems that you, Con, Malcolm, MC and others are all having a go
