had a 2008 RWT shiraz last Sunday after the footy amongst many wines at a late lunch. 12 of us there, about 15 bottles in total, and this was the only bottle not completely drunk. I had a small taste, reassured me why I never drink, let alone purchase, Penfolds wines.

Too heavy / oaky? If the latter, there's an irony that RWT was championed as a 'more elegant' style, using that posh French oak.

Interesting article in the The Age/SMH about Pennies having reduced revenue In Aus, but TWE being propped up by 19 Crimes in the US.
No accounting for taste, its probably something I would use to clean the bird shit off the car, certainly has enough acid to obliterate anything!!

Cheers Craig

Huge wine, raspy green tannins, over-oaked, zero complexity. Screwcap, and I'm becoming less and less convinced about that closure for red wines.
It was actually rather unpleasant to drink, but I'd assume it will be better in another 30-40 years. SC closure does not allow big Aussie shiraz to develop IMO.

I am guessing you are not in the market for this new bad boy Rose, a bit of Snoop Dog action:

Can't you recognise the skill involved in getting raspy green tannins in a monolithic wine? Not something any old winemaking team can achieve
