Likewise - more Coonawarra from back in the heyday. Petaluma used to have quite the reputation, but had fallen off the radar somewhat. May be time to revisit.

Simon, I have found 2010/12 to be very good. Its a point of difference with the small amount of Merlot in the blend to all the straight cabs that I have.
I actually really enjoy the Adelaide Hills Shiraz
Cheers Craig

Hope so! I have 6 of the 2012 in storage and have noticed the cellar tracker ratings haven't been fantastic.

The Melbourne Wine Group is having a Petaluma tasting at the start of June with multiple vintages of mature Riesling, Merlot and the Cabernet. There is even a bottle of 79 VP to end the session. Not exactly sure when Crozier lost charge of the Brand, but I think most of the wines will have been made by him.
It would be interesting to taste some of the recent Petaluma vintages against their Tapanappa equivalent.

I picked up some Mount Mary Triolet tonight from the MW auction - 2 each of the 97 and 05 and a single bottle of the 06. There were a few others I would have bid on, but again work got in the way.

2015 arrived yesterday, will stand one up. Ox Hardy made this one, might be the last one entirely by him, although suspect 16-18 he had a hand in before leaving.

Prices were fair - you are taking a chance with white wine that old, but I had the 95 a few months ago and it was drinking well.
There were some lovely ports I wanted to bid on, but you need to be there bidding for those and commission bids. Which is what I did for the Triolet, won’t work. I presume other members of the board picked up a few of them.

I was doing some grocery shopping and decided to pop into the neighboring liquor store. Imagine my surprise when I came across some old vintages of a Sonoma Valley winery called Kunde Estate and all on clearance for only C$12.99!
2003 Kunde Estate Merlot,
2004 Kunde Estate Syrah,
2004 Kunde Estate Reserve Century Vines Zinfandel, Shaw Vineyard, and
2005 Kunde Estate Cabernet.
I was apprehensive about the state of the wines but I've tried both the Merlot and Syrah and they were both quite nice, very serviceable, and the tannins fully resolved. I didn't buy the 2007 Viognier but I might go back and pick one up.

Picked up a bottle of 2004 The Darkie Shiraz, Leibich. Not really my thing any more, but I visited the cellar door on my first visit to Auz in 2007 and this was still in the barrel (or it could have been an older vintage) - RP had written some goods things about it. Will be interesting to see what it has become.
Also a single bottle of 2012 Tanundu 100 Year Old Semillon and a couple of bottle of 04 Granite Hills Riesling. Not a Riesling fan, but have been to the cellar door twice and I like the people.

In April this year the Beronia 2017 Rioja Reserva was a Jancis Robinson wine of the week. The person who nominated the wine was Tamlyn Currin and she had high praise for the wine:
"An opportunity arose, however, to taste some old riojas with Beronia's winemaking director, Matías Calleja, on a Zoom call in December 2021. It was a privilege to taste Gran Reservas from 2001, 1994 and 1978, all still so complete and full of life, but the tasting also included their latest Reserva from the 2017 vintage. Despite the august company of much grander, older, and much more expensive wines, this modest £15 whippersnapper just shone.
"My tasting note went:
'the fruit aromas on this wine are almost outrageously expressive – so intense yet so spunky that I wanted to laugh out loud on just one sniff of them! Ridiculously, deliciously jam-packed with this firework-flung handful of coruscatingly bright fruit that is simply irresistible. A Catherine-wheel of plums and damsons. Delicious peppery and fine-ground cumin spice. Blood orange and exploding with white pepper. … Tight, tight tannins but absolutely delicious. It would be incredibly difficult, having tasted this, to leave it in the rack long enough to age. Although Calleja assures us it will. VGV'
"
Imagine my surprise when the Beronia Reserva appeared in a local flyer for only C$12.59 a bottle in a mixed 6-pack. The closest store had the 2017 vintage but only five bottles on the shelf while the next nearest store didn't even receive any for the promotion. Happy to have scored:
5 x 2017 Bodega Beronia Rioja Riserva.

I am a fan of Beronia, really pleasing wines representing excellent value.
(although I don't think any of my notes have been quite as enthusiastic as that persons!)

It was effusive wasn't it - how could I resist? At least there weren't any points involved - I so dislike point stickers on wine bottles.
