A sixer of 2019 Pepperjack BV shiraz...great VFM at $16: 50 a bottle. Tried this last week, lovely blackcurrant, plum, pepper notes, very enjoyable.
Think 2019 will be a belter of a vintage everywhere.

Travis remarked that one of his favourite wines is the Rockies Moppa GMS so his blended wines are in similar style and profile.
I would have to agree. His use of Mataro is brilliant and the interplay with the Grenache is sublime. Throw in a lick of Shiraz and bingo.
He's Straight shiraz is very 'BV' in style but there's a lovely bright fruit profile and the tannins are delectably smooth. These wines are drink now with an 8-10 year proposition and beyond. Gotta say outta all the tastings i did last weekend these wines were way up there. And I'd strongly recommend doing a tasting with Travis if you get the chance. Super welcoming chap and some great yarns if you can hang around a bit. He might even pull out some older stuff to taste..

Seafood with the BP? absolutely . Did a Stonewall lunch last Friday and the yellow fin whiting was top shelf. Paired with a 2021 Rockford Vine Vale Riesling. Started to float away at this point....
Funnily enough the 2012 Moppa really stole the show in the pairing department. Drinking beautifully now

I've always found the Moppa Springs to be an under rated wine, especially for ageing. In decent vintages, they do 10 years in a canter. Tried the '11 at the cellar door this year and was surprised by the quality of it. Upon release I found it near undrinkable, but it's aged beautifully and turned into a solid wine. I have every vintage back to 2004 and cork gods dependant, would love to do a massive vertical one day. The 2012 is an absolute cracker now with many years left in the tank.

Malcolm, at 11 years this should be drinking superbly?
IIRC its a cab/shiraz/merlot blend? Thinking of getting a few

Well, if you are thinking about it, you'd better hop on board. they haven't made any more of this label since 2010. Mal said they are thinking of a slightly different blend, maybe a "straight" Cab Shiraz

I completely agree about the agebility of Moppa Springs. Never mind a decade, it can easily go for two. My bottle of the 1998 Moppa Springs was glorious at 18 years of age, and while it was at it's peak it was in no danger of falling over. However I will say this, that unlike the 2011, in its youth the the 1998 was lovely and it was the reason I bought it to cellar.

That lunch looks amazing... I have been a Stonewall member for a few years now but haven't yet had the chance to go to one of these lunches. One day!

Haven’t had Bowen for ages. I always found vintages I cellared from the 90’s needed a long time for my palate preference.

We did a three decade sample tasting at CD last weekend, 1999, 2009 and 2019. Both of the older wines were drinking very well. Couldn't get over how fresh the 99 was. Both very enjoyable.

Yes completely understand, I would like to get off the Riddoch and indeed Wynns train, but might be 2-3 vintages to go before I reach the end of the line.

Had the '98 at the JR Masterclass at CD last weekend, it showed very well. Beautiful to drink now and will still hold on for few years. Unfortunately, I only have a solitary bottle of the '98 vintage left in the cellar

Ruggabellus was release to the mailing list today. I think this is my favourite Auz producer and it’s the Solumodo and Quomodo that really impress me.

1*2020 Archeaues (they only have 200 bottles to sell and it’s 1 per customer)
3 * 2018 Quomodo
3 * 2018 Solumodo
5 * 2018 Sallio

Sound like they are having a difficult time. Only 450l of red wine made in 2019, there might be 1100 bottles of the 2 White Estate wines in 2019 but there are none for 2020.

Others news, which I am not so keen on, is that they are going back to cork.

It would be interesting to know why? I don’t dispute their decision and fully respect some styles may well be better suited. I also would be intrigued by the corks they are using and any quality assurances against TCA.

My experience of Tarrington/Hochkirch has not been good, with a high cork rate. I think things are better now, but who knows. The Sallio will be drunk young and I guess it will give an indication.

I visited Abel and tasted at his place years ago. Have a mixed six pack I look forward to trying whenever SA opens its borders. Should be lovely drinking and easing the way into SA wines after so long abroad and drinking diverse styles.

I’ve been enjoying old Aussie Cabernet so backfilling some classics from auction: Moss Wood, Plantagenet, Riddoch.
