It gets easier as time goes on. Been almost 2 years since I Iast bought Shiraz. I almost get tempted each time there's a Marius or Sami-Odi mailing list offer, but I hold my ground. No regrets!

I visited Burge Family at Lyndoch as I needed a case of quaffers to take back to HKG.

Delighted with 12 x 2013 Draycott Shiraz-Souzao which is Draycott fruit with 25% Souzao- a Portugese grape. Being in HKG, close to Macau, I've drunk dry Portugese reds for years and I rate this very highly.

$25 and down to $19 with TRS at the Aiport- they inspected every bottle so some scams been going on I'm guessing.

I must add. I feel this is a premium wine if cellared for the long term and only its price tag is indicative of quaffing!

I have found the same. Other than purchasing Marius every year, I've only purchase half a dozen bottles of Penfold's St Henri (2010 (5) and 2012(1)) since 2013.
A quick look on Cellar tracker confirms that 28.5% of my cellar is Shiraz. One fifth of that 28.5% is Marius.
Must drink more Marius....

Turns out they don't have the Dixon, so a few emails later and I've upgraded to 2 of the 2015 Mount Mary Pinot Noir

Re: Shiraz buying, I do think it's merely a case of over-exposure / over-hype. Too much focus from the critics and hence many of us got encouraged into having too many in the cellar.

It's not often we open them now (and even less we'll buy them). If in the mood, they'll often hit the mark. However they're unlikely to make us want to open another soon after.

Happier as well now that we have a more equal balance between the syrah and shiraz styles, which can be remarkably different experiences.

Pretty confident I own one shiraz
a Shiraz Viognier from Clonakilla
I found my palate moved away the style of shiraz
occasionally I relish a wonderful Cote Rotie

I find I still enjoy cool climate shiraz. One of my top 5 wow wines last year was an old 2000 Mount Langi Shiraz. I also enjoy the Clonakilla SVs again with some decent age.

Some recent pickups for me:

12 x Ropiteau Les Plants Nobles Chardonnay '16
12 x Winerie Parisienne Rosé '16
6 x Chateau La Clapiere Cru Classe Rosé '16

The Chardonnay was very light and had good fruit expression, perfect for summer, if there was any oak involved it was definitely used oak and for a very short time.

The stand-out for me was the Clapiere Rosé; I very much regret not buying a whole lot more (unfortunately it sold out very quickly) - it's one of those bottles where it seemed like you just had one sip, suddenly the whole bottle is empty. Nicest rosé I have had in ages that wasn't a Bandol and it was no where near Bandol pricing.

Don't know if you'd opened any, do you prefer '14 or '15 Prephylloxera?

I'm offered the '15 for $77 CAD and wonder if it's worthy to get some bottles.

I haven't opened any of my bottles, but I got to try the '15 at an offline back in March. It's a very serious wine and the quality is obvious. However, if you don't like prominent oak (even when it's done in a good way) it may not be your style. I've read that many people write off this wine when tasting young for being way too oaky. Apparently the oak settles down significantly with aging. Hence, planning to cellar mine for a few years before opening.

I think I'll prefer the '15 over the '14 as I like this vintage much more as a whole.

$77 CAD is about half what it costs in Oz.

Good to know. I'll go back tomorrow to get 3 bottles. Regular is $90 CAD and now offers 15% off.

They also have the basic Etna Rosso 2016 at $24 CAD net. What do you think about this wine/vintage?

I've had a couple 2016 Etna's from SRC which were fabulous. If that's an indication of the vintage, then it really just comes down to the style of each producer. I like Terre Nere so if it were me I wouldn't hesitate, especially at that price.
