Even magnums of the humble Metala (when made) came in a nice wooden box, along with several Redmans magnums.

Snap Malcolm! Next time I'll jump in the frame. It's like the DRC stone cross of the Coonawarra although that's more likely the Coonawarra train station. Yes I have photos of that too Craig. Who doesn't?
Speaking of DRC I was at a pop up vinyl sale the other day and all of the records were in wooden DRC boxes. Maybe fake?
There were a pile of empty wooden boxes in the penola pub bottlo that I asked about but they were already 'taken'.

I remember the Penola pub bottle shop, quite large it was too. Interestingly they had an older Portuguese wine there and after two solid months fare of Aussie wine that is what I went for despite it being an ordinary bottle.

It is now clear that my memory is nowhere near up to par. Now visiting family in Sydney, I see that some of my wines are in Australian wooden boxes, namely:
- Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz (1999),
- Andrew Harris 'The Vision' (1996),
- Hardy's 'Thomas Hardy' Cabernet Sauvignon (no vintage), and
- Grant Burge 'Meshach' (2000).
All are six-packs and two have lids with screws.
Cheers ........... Mahmoud.

Grange now comes in individual boxes - don't worry I didn't buy it!

At duty free there were heaps of wooden boxes for single bottles such as Cape Mentelle and Jacob's Creek. Obviously for the mainland Chinese market in what seems an environmentally irresponsible move. The last thing China needs is for its middle class consumers to think wines should come in individual boxes-they're already decimating the forests of Asia.
There was a 500 AUD bottle of Chinese wine on offer too.

New partner this year. Not expecting too much other than a great time and great company!
See you in May. If you are there on the Tuesday we could have nine holes in the afternoon.

Mahmoud Ali wrote:In the "November 2017 Purchases" thread both Rossco and Pat mentioned the 2001 Domaine A Cabernet. Rossco had bought three bottles while Pat said he had a wooden box of 6 bottles. At first I was surprised to hear that the Domaine A came in a wooden box, then thought about what other Australian wine comes in a box. I recall seeing a Penfold's Grange box quite some time ago but cannot remember any others off the top of my head. I have quite a few wooden boxes in which I store my wines, mostly Bordeaux and quite a few Italian six-pack boxes. I am almost certain that I do not have an Australian wooden box.
I'd very much like to know which Australian wines come in original wooded boxes.

Would you like to buy some? How about $200 for a Grange six-pack box?

Nope, boxes are only an intellectual curiosity, wines on the other hand are more important. I'll take a single bottle of Grange for $200 instead of the six -pack box. Deal?
Mahmoud.

Does anyone have any 6/12 bottle wodden crates/boxes they care to offload?
I’m giving a mixed case to a mate for a 40th present, but I’ve not been able to find any decent boxes...

I recently purchased the Henschke Hill of Grace 2012 and Hill of Roses 2010, both of which came in an individual wooden box.

A friend of mine cuts out holes in the bottom and puts wheels on the 6 pack box's and makes carts for his little girl. They come up well actually.

I’ve got plenty of single boxes, but the 6/12 pack crates are harder to come by..:

In a pinch I could. I'm in Sydney lower north shore. Would mean a trip to the offsite in Artarmon and a rummage. I have a flat 6 Te Mata Coleraine and some Penfolds St Henri. Willing to part with, it's just timing and a little bit of hassle. So what I am trying to say is I am sympathetic but maybe not your best first option. If not easy, lemme know as I understand you are trying to be a good mate.

Thanks for the offer, but sounds like a hassle.
I’ve also realised the recipient may not want to keep the wooden boxes, I’ll just leave it...

All good, I found a nice wooden crate for $10 - it held the full 12 bottles plus a boxed decanter
Bloody heavy once full though!
