Alex, there are no winners when you air your personal feelings in a public forum like this. Least of all you.
Have to disagree Hacker. We are constantly airing our personal feelings about our interactions with wines, wineries and winemakers on this forum.
Often, the subject of our opinions does not get the opportunity to respond, as Roger has so eloquently.
Cheers

David not sure I agree with you on this front. I don't know Alex nor Roger nor the background to their conflict but the forum is all about personal views. One's views on wines and cellar doors and experiences in general. And in terms of what I have read over the years, I thought Alex's comment was pretty subdued. One man's disappointment is another mans gain.

Not at all. Feel free to come out of your box. Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else.

Carry on Hacker - as you were.
And thanks to Roger for the eloquence, completely classy terroir related gag.

Since this the thread is taking a turn for the worse, I thought I’d post something along the lines of why we are all here – for wine.
2014 Marius Simpatico ShirazI decided to open a 2014 Simpatico Shiraz and give my new Zalto Bordeaux glasses a try. I gave it about a 4 hour decant.
On the nose it struck me as very similar in profile to the big end of town US Syrahs. (in a positive way). There is a nice purity of fruit, which almost, yet never descends, to a confected note – something I’ve found in the quality US ones that seem to do this so well. Dark fruits and blackberry abound with raspberry intertwined throughout. Some nice spices and hints of white pepper. This is a really enjoyable nose that I kept on coming back to.
On the palate the mouthfeel is luxurious, soft and supple, a real basket pressed texture. The acid is quite prominent at the moment, with velvety tannins rounding it out creating a really elegant wine. Great length. This is a lovely balanced wine even at such a young age. There is a hit of red fruit on entry, then it is swamped by the darker fruits as it moves through your palate.
For me this is where McClaren Vale should be - power with finesse. I’m tired of the typical big styles that are cloying and hot. The Simpatico is proof of what the region is capable of and at a reasonable price. I think in years to come it will be considered a benchmark for the region.

Thanks Dave, I will open mine in about 3 to 4 years time.

It's been a Simpatico festival at my place these past weeks.
From 2010, to 2014, back to 2012 on the weekend.
The 2012 features an awful lot to get excited about as well. Very good call on power and finesse Dave - nice to have it expressed so succinctly. Easy to see I am never going to lose that sense of excitement that precedes the unscrewing of another Marius.

As I have also purchased my first case, I have a couple of questions for those with more experience than I:
1) First do people believe shiraz goes through a dumb or dormant phase. I work on the basis that all Cab Sav and Riesling does but I have often wondered if shiraz suffers from the same problem or whether it is just a very gradual upwards trajectory time if well cellared. I am assuming I will drink the wine before it starts down the other side of the hill. I have been pondering this question since trying a wonderful bottle of Voyager Shiraz '99 which I found recently at the back of the cellar. It got lost because the prior couple of bottles 4-5 years earlier had appeared thin and on decline. I was therefore stunned by the lost bottle of the 99. Hence the question, do people believe shiraz goes to sleep?
2) what do people think the ideal drinking window is for the Marius wines. Given I only purchased 3 of each I would much prefer to drink them at their peak.
Thanks
Mark

I note that Marius wines do not come up on a search of the Auswine site. Gavin, are you hiding them?

Yes, did it work? Keeping them for myself!
All sold out, have been for some little time, mostly all sell out by, or even before, release.

I've always tended to wait 3 - 4 years, and have not been disappointed. That said, on the occasions I have gone early, a 2 - 3 hour decant, even a double decant have ensured a good experience.
I only go back to 2006 wines, so others would know better.
