Hey folks, 1st time poster trying to build a half respectable Aussie cellar, ideally with an emphasis on boutique and independent wines. Couldn't resist the Mac Forbes mailing list so have jumped in with:

2x Woori Yallock 2014 Black Label
2x Woori Yallock 2015 Pinot
2x Wesburn 2015 Pinot
2x Coldstream 2015 Pinot
2x Yarra Junction 2015 Pinot
2x Hoddles Creek 2015 Pinot

...and just for a little variety

2x Woori Yallock 2015 Rose
2x HUGO 2013
2x Yarra Valley Chardonnay

Fingers crossed for 2015 YV Pinot's.

A couple of nice purchases there Craig.
Have you tried either of these wines as yet? I have not had the opportunity, but keen to hear about the Chalkers Crossing in particular.

I am going to have a go at the Chalkers on the weekend.
It was a speculative buy I must admit, but at around $25 and before the news of 5 trophies at the Sydney show, a few punters were saying good things about it.

Equally, purchased the violet hour before JH went ga ga over it. I will try it soon, and see that there is a tasting in the next couple of weeks at The Ed. Selina was lovely to deal with, just rang them up and ordered a dozen...guess they might have a bit more demand on them now.

I am desperately trying to spin away from the strong lure of well worn faves such as Wendouree, Rockford, Wynns etc to get some much needed diversity in the cellar, and two I am looking really hard at the next batch of sub $25 or so wines that punch above their weight and will go the distance.

Cheers
Craig

6 x Henschke Hill of Grace 2010

Just joking! I'm going to short the Aussie dollar and go to the horse races and hopefully I can raise a throw away $4200 bucks.

Mike would like to agree with you here, but methinks for some time now the're not short of coin.
Wonder when Stephen and Prue put the cue in the rack will there be a change of direction?

Like your position on the nags Jamie, last years Melbourne cup $3 mystery quinella gave me back nearly 300 times my money...everything tasted sweeter after that

Agreed Deejay, the prices McWilliams have put on these now is bordering on delusional
I have a few dozen of late 90s Rosehill, OP&OH and a few O'Sheas...all at $50 a bottle or less.

I am after some 14 Philip...but seems to have all dried up here in SA.

Talking to a McWiliams Rep earlier this week re the 14 Philip, apparently the company initially sold it at a lower price into the market. The limited stock DM and others had was purchased at the lower price. When Halliday came out with a high score they pulled supply whilst they renegotiated the price up. They will release it soon at a higher price.

And another case of the Capel Vale 2012 Regional Series Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon (cleanskin) because it's so damn glugable.

Given Halliday has not even reviewed the '14 Philip (I did, though, and well), I'd say your rep is a typical rep. What did happen is that it was always going to be priced higher on release (October from memory), but it slipped into the supply chain by mistake. Plenty of people snaffled a bargain. FWIW I think the 14 OP&OH and Rosehill are better wines than the 14 O'Shea. Ain't no way I'd spend $250 on it.

Gary

Perhaps it was the power of your review rather than Halliday that caused mayhem and delay. The rest of the info appears correct namely an early release then pulling supply.

I'm keen to track down the Rosehill. Sadly the O'Shea is just too xxy now.

By the way any chance you know when Tyrells will release the Vat 9.

I got a message from Chris Tyrell on another social media site that it would be released late this year. It's possible he or I mixed it up and he meant the 2015, but I'm hoping not.

There was no 2015.

All of the 2014 Private Bin Reds sold out long ago to Private Bin members. Vat 9, like Vat 1, has always had two releases. An early release to Private Bin customers as soon as it is bottled, and a later release to the general public at a much higher price. It is quite likely that while the Private Bin allocation sold out long ago, the public allocation is waiting to be released.

That was also my understanding. No luck with the 4 acres etc which went to the members but the '14 Vat 9 should be released to the general public sometime this year.
