Yep, I'm a definite. Love the No Theme theme.

Brio no longer do BYO? We shall discuss this with them, happy they made an exception.

I mean, I just don't get the whole not-BYO thing.

A) I go there and order water. No money from drinks for them.
B) I go there and have a beer and two of us share the second cheapest bottle off their list. :-) They make maybe $35 from drinks for two?
C) They have a per person fixed BYO surcharge of $20 per head. (OK $10 or $15 would be nice, but I'll happily pay $20 at the nice Brio level of 'well made everyday mod-oz with a twist' food). They make $40 from two people. Win for them. They don't have to advertise it greatly, just let people know who ask.

I'd also happily pay $40, 50 or even 60 per person (not per bottle for we wine nerds) at higher priced/hatted restaurants, surely they can still make the same or more than their average drinks profit off that?? Not like we don't pay a decent gratuity as well as eating plenty of food.

C'Mon restaurants, what's the mentality behind No BYO? Just charge a reasonable price to even up the cleanskin bringers and it's a win win.... Or have I missed something? Sorry to detract from the theme, could well be its own thread.

Cheers
Tim

Offlines are a different kettle of fish
It's not like your getting a table of 8 -12 that may only order a glass or two of wine
It's a done deal, corkage on every attendee
I haven't been to an offline there but know it's hosted quite a few
Would be very surprised if they turned it down, they simply lose 8-12 odd heads with guaranteed corkage straight up
And they don't even need to supply glassware or pull a single cork out!

Yeah...I'm not sure what the logic is but some places see you bring 10 bottles and think, I could have sold all that wine and made a ton of money...but they don't realize that just because you brought 10 bottles for BYO doesn't mean you'd have bought 10 bottles from them if you didn't allow BYO.

Any word on whether you can make it mate? 8)

For what its worth I'll be bringing an 05 Rockford Cab, an 06 Menzies and a half bottle of sticky?

What would people prefer: 2008 Noble One, 2011 Moss Wood Sticky Semillon, Dandelion Vineyards PX or Seppeltsfield DP63 Muscat?

Up to you Alex, but Noble 1 or Moss Wood if I had to narrow it down.

I'll probably go Noble One, it's showing a fair bit of development colour wise and at 8 years might have some secondary flavours coming through.

I'm not particularly convinced about any of the Reds I have handy so I suspect I will bring a Chardonnay and maybe a curio red that is probably past it but might have some interest.

I'm bringing a sparkling red in case the corks on the cabs are stuffed so maybe better to bring an extra white?

The other red I was considering is screwcap
And a contender of the now defunct NSW theme
but cool to make it a white if that works better?

Nick - Bring whichever you want. I'm trying to decide what else to bring but if it is red heavy that'll just mean I probably bring an extra white...

We're going to have a ton of wine... :)

Level on the Rockford was pretty low so opened it to check everything was safe and sound - nope, corked! Will bring another older cab instead, see what I can dig up. :?

Shit cork and some TCA. Not super bad but noticeable. I'll send it back to Rockford tomorrow I guess.
