There is, but I have taken the advice of the esteemed Simon1980 and tried to get focussed on the 2012/2013/2014 vintages of pinot noir that both Mornington and YV are turning out. Seriously great wines some of them, and a change in pace once in a while from the shiraz. In saying that, glad I grabbed some Serrat Shiraz viognier earlier in the week. But that's it. A punctuation mark for shiraz for a little while.

In transition phase - stocked up ("overstocked") my new cellar last year but made the mistake of many new cellar owners and went overboard with volume, particularly on big Aussie shiraz and cabernet. Now drinking the young Aussie stuff and focusing on acquiring old world wines....

36.1% Shiraz
5.1% shiraz blends
20.3% Cabernet
15.5% cabernet blends
5.6% Bordeaux
2.4% Burgundy red (about to increase significantly)
9% other red
2.6% Champagne
1.5% Chardonnay
2% other white

Watch this space....will change significantly soon!!!

I'm reviving this thread from 3 years ago as my cellar has changed substantially since then. Back then my breakdown was:
Ozzie W wrote:Shiraz 48.1%
Pinot Noir 14.6%
Cabernet Sauvignon 11.2%
Red Bordeaux Blend 5.1%
Red Blend 3.6%
Grenache 2.9%
Tempranillo 2.7%
Nebbiolo 1.9%
Merlot 1.7%
Riesling 1.5%
Sangiovese 1.2%
Others < 1.0% each
Now it's:

Pinot Noir 23.0%
Nebbiolo 18.1%
Syrah 16.8%
Nerello Mascalese 12.6%
Cabernet Sauvignon 8.2%
Red Bordeaux Blend 5.0%
Champagne 3.8%
Red Blend 1.9%
Tempranillo 1.9%
Sangiovese 1.6%
Red Rhone Blend 1.0%
Others < 1.0% each

It's interesting to see the changes in breakdown as my palate has changed. Things are starting to get closer to the breakdown of what I like to drink, rather than what I was buying in the past. Shiraz will drop even further over the next few years as I plan to sell some of it. Anyone else had a big shift in their cellar breakdown?

Being organised deprives you of happy surprises. Last night I was emptying under my stairs looking for a lost computer back-up drive. I did not find it. I did however find a 6 pack of 2013 Puriri Hills Harmonie du Soir which I thought I must have already polished off. Nebbiolo to the fore, but I try to keep buying in check. One in 5 bottles seems to work for us as the moment. Recent movements involve some of the lesser seen grapes coming in near the bottom of the list, and plenty more below that (~ 15% of my cellar is not shown, so plenty of oddities)

My spreadsheet sorts by region and colour hence the categories shown. Playing with my wine inventory spreadsheet is one of those things I enjoy.

Biggest change is the drop in Aussie Reds from 17.5% down to 9.6% of cellar. A lot of the wine was sold off. The overall composition / balance in the cellar has not changed dramatically over last 3 years. If I went back 10 years to 2008 it would be a bigger change I suspect.

Note to self... Need more Burgundy, need more Gamay (I'm a big fan of Cru Beaujolais with a few years on the clock), and need more Champagne.

Cellar is woefully short on all of these.

More classic Old World nudging out easily obtainable shiraz. Less Australian as that's easily obtainable with an Adelaide retirement

At the rate I'm going I'll be 50% nebbiolo. It's a love, a passion, what I like drinking and by gosh, its been so cheap to do by comparison to every single wine region in the world !
