Hi Phil
I was quite shocked at the prices commanded for back vintages- 96 $700-ish? If our storage culture better the auction seen wouldn't let this happen.
I'm putting on a Hill of Grace vertical in HKG for my tasting group. With then prices as they are, it will be my last, my Hill of Grace stocks are now for family and friends. I went via my cellar in ADL and picked up a dozen + Hill of Graces so we have 88, 90, 92,93,94,95, 96,99, 02, 08 plus 08 Hill of Roses and 09 Hill of Grace dinner wines.
I bought the 09 and 08 HofG at Duty Free. I get a 20% discount as airport staff so they came in under $430. Henschke can send the wines overseas directly but current release 09 $590 not including air freight. Funny, as soon as I bought the 5 x HofG some mainlander people grabbed the rest. I left all that ridiculous packaging at duty free ( individual wooden box really? ).
I managed to get TRS on the Mt Ed's too. So was pretty pleased to pay under $100.

Hi Jamie,
If you don't mind me asking, is a normal retail tax invoice sufficient to claim the TRS on wine? The Customs website suggests the receipt must show the GST and WET paid, although I don't ever recall WET being listed before?

Agreed.
2x 2010 Domaine de Chevalier
1x 2010 Chateau Gruaud Larose
1x 2010 La Dame de Montrose
1x 2010 Chateau Gloria
1x 2010 La Croix de Beaucaillou
1x 2010 Chateau Lanessan (for $25!)
If the Ch. Lanessan is good I'll be stocking up. Rouget, Monbousquet and maybe some more Gloria sounds good too. Lots of wines at great prices, not sure why they're trying to clear it all?

Hi Jamie,
If you don't mind me asking, is a normal retail tax invoice sufficient to claim the TRS on wine? The Customs website suggests the receipt must show the GST and WET paid, although I don't ever recall WET being listed before?
I was told by one lady at Customs my receipt needed to have my name and address as greater than $1000. News to me.
At the TRS counter inside departures one very helpful lady countered this and said my Credit Card had the address on it and would suffice.
So a normal invoice is fine though I would call them to avoid my scare.

This is correct for invoices over $1000. You were lucky to get someone that said it was alright.

Some of you guys seem to love Woodlands 'name' Cabernets. I find it strange that there's a $20-something cab-merlot and then a $100+ 'name' cabernet and nothing in between. Quite a jump in price. From cheap to expensive with nothing in between. Strikes me as being a bit odd. If the top wines were made in extremely small quantities, it would make sense. Otherwise, 2 grades of a similar wine have vastly different prices.
Any thoughts?

Woodlands 'Margaret' is a $40-something bottle of wine and generally believed to be great VFM.

Indeed, at

Grabbed some more 2010 Bordeaux, called up the retailer and they said the offer expires soon. Reviews are also starting to pop up on Winefront but I've already spent enough! I was thinking about doubling up but I think I'd rather have one of each of the Chateaus and try to get multiples of areas.
1x Chateau Phelan-Segur
1x Chateau Gazin
1x Chateau Rouget
1x Chateau Brane-Cantenac
1x Chateau d'Issan
1x Chateau Lanessan (did double up on this one, just too cheap)
1x Chateau Giscours

Here in Ontario, the 2010 Lanessan sells for the same price as the 2012 Wynn's Black Label (just under $28 CDN). Is it relatively the same where you buy it?
