First time visiting Tassie wineries in more than 15 years..... Quality has improved exponentially... As have the golf courses. I cant recommend Barnbougle dunes and Lost Farms highly enough....

I was going to ask the same thing. Nant impress me greatly out of all the aussie malts. I Remember trying a three year old new spirit at the big annual whisky fair a few years back that was incredibly balanced and complex for such a young drink (and distillery).

Great spot isn't it. Obviously the courses rate highly but the facilities are quality too, particularly the Lost Farm bar/restaurant.

Look out for similar devopments on King Island in 2015 (Ocean Dunes & Cape Wickham), they need some rain etc but fingers crossed they'll both be open and playing well by end of next year.

I worry that it will be too inaccessible to make money.. But by all reports it should be an amazing complex.

There's also a 3rd course soon to be built near Lost Farms. Tassie will be one of the worlds great golf destinations, which should be a boon for their wine and whisky industries.

God the wine over here is dreadful. Filled up last nite on a litre of beautifully aromatic warm gluewein because I couldn't drink any of the other wines offered to me.

Mike, are you referring to the course on Flinder's Island, or is there another course on the tassie mainland planned??

haha, but it was funny, there was a "mystery" wine in one of the flights, and the Burg nuts flew ridiculous theories all around the room, about Passetougrain, Bourgogne Rouge from a ripe vintage, weird biodynamic red etc etc. When asked, I piped up for the first time all night and simply said "this is Chateauneuf du Pape". the wines were just ok, and confirmed my theory that 2011 was indeed utter crap. 2012 is not too bad, on a par with 08 IMO. One of the gurus picked 90% of the wines totally blind, we are talking producer, vineyard and vintage…. it was staggering to watch. His tales of Burgundy were incredible, particularly about the deception of 2011 and 2013, which he calls the two worst vintages of the past 50 years. And when you think about that, geez, they gotta be really bad!!!!

Hi Felix, I noticed John Gilman is conversely very optimistic about 2013 in Burgundy, one of his quotes is below preceding his notes on 2013 wines:

… it seems quite clear that the potential to make absolutely superb wines in 2013 in the Côte d’Or was here in this vintage, and the most talented (or lucky) vignerons have made absolutely magical wines in this vintage. Will they ever reach the same lofty heights of the greatest recent vintages, such as 2005, 2010 and 2012? Perhaps, but only time will be able to answer that question. However, there is no denying that many producers whom I visit … are utterly thrilled with how their 2013s have come out - not to mention surprised - and the Burgundians themselves (excluding Chablis) are already ranking 2013 extremely highly and are certainly open to the possibility that 2013 may well rank right up there in the fullness of time with other great recent vintages. ....

In the light of the guy in your quote above, it is very confusing for us punters to get a really informed view. Also Claude Kolm is very generous with his assessment of the wines in general in his blog. http://thefinewinereview.blogspot.com.au/
