Another cracking night on the vino... and I too was a more than a little dusty this morning.

Seppelts Drumborg Riesling 2003: the balance of this wine between a the fruit sweetness and acidity is superb and it will go for years yet.

AJ Adam Hoffberg Kabinett 2011: I enjoyed this but it would probably benefit from a few more years aging, not to mention that I had swum through some lovely reds before I got to it in earnest so my palate was a little dulled.

Muscat Sec Des Roumanis 'Les Petit Gimios' 2011: Paul ventured that it was a cross between flat lemonade and gin and tonic, which I will happily agree with and add iced lemon tea. Really enjoyable wine.

Domaine Vincent Careme L'Ancestrale Vouvray 2011: Not disgorged, it had yeasty/biscuity notes like Champagne but also had a real apple cider character. I find Bollinger has a Granny Smith type flavour, but this was more of a scrumpy of even perry type flavour. Had never had a sparkling Vouvray so thanks to Paul for bringing this one along.

Rosemount OP&OH 2005: It was quite drinkable and certainly improved over the evening, but I didn't really dwell on it like I did the other two reds.

Lakes Folly Cabernet 1999: Unlike some others I'm not particularly sensitive to TCA and although on reflection their may have been a little bit of band aid on the periphery, it didn't stop me enjoying the wine. It was very restrained, and I got notes of plum and nougat on the palate.

Collector Reserve Shiraz 2008: Mmmm, loved this. Dark fruit, pencil shavings, structure, length... Must buy 2013 Canberra reds.

Look forward to doing this again, hopefully with a few more Canberrans who want to help shoulder the burden of all these lovely bottles.

It was a lovely meal with great conversation.

My WOTN was the Seppelt Drumborg. What a beautiful wine. Utterly delicious.
The sparkling Vouvray was refreshing, moreish and quite surprisingly complex.
The Muscat was the most unusual Muscat that I've had. Hard to describe, easy to drink.
I really liked the OP&OH. To me it was quite rustic old school in the mouth with grippy tannins and not an ounce of jammy fruit to be found. Give it another 5-10 years and wait for the secondary flavours to come through.
The Collector was really nice and silky smooth. No rush on this one. Good for another 10 at least. I'm biased but I could drink this all night.
The Lake's Folly had a wonderful nose. Man I love a good Bdx blend. I reckon there was a hint of TCA detectable on both the nose (dank) and the palate (metallic), but I still enjoyed this drop a lot. Boy, it's still quite young!

All in all a lovely night.

Shall we aim for a Wednesday evening in May? 7th or 14th? Possible option would be the Vietnamese restaurant at Macquarie. Not expensive & some interesting dishes to match wines with. Probably bring glasses.

Either date works for me. Can also do Friday nights (easier recovery). I wonder if Booj goes with Vietnamese? Suspect not. Will confirm tomorrow.
