"wifey" to me actually seems to imply affection, more a term of endearment than disparagement.

you strike me a anything but a coward, and in my view the PM was the right approach.
I dont share your view however on the term wifey, and would be happy for Mong to continue using it.

My parents have been happily married 40 years, and my mum has called my pop 'hubby' for as long as i remember.
For someone to judge her remarks as disrespectful would cause all our family to take a very strong protective stance, particularly from my father.

I really enjoy your comments generally Michael, and note that Monghead took no offense to your mail.

"Pop" could be viewed as ageist and "hubby" equally as negatively inferential as "wifey" from a strict sense of etiquette. But then if Pop hadn't popped none of us would be discussing this totally purile and ridiculous subject.

FFS!

To me all of these terms including "wifey" are expessions of affection. Perhaps there was some context in which Monghead used "wifey" that seemed negative to MM. If so, perhaps MM should examine his memory of his occasional negative thoughts of his own partner, the term so ascribed in his own mind.

There are many more vinous reasons to PM a member of this forum than a mindslide about an innocuous or possibly affectionate reference to a partner as "wifey".

To both, if I'd got a PM about such a trivial matter I'd respond with, "FO, get a life!" And I certainly wouldn't feel any compulsion to post an apology on this board.
